“I was over the moon this morning when I was trying to decide where to go for a morning açai bowl. OakBerry‘s newly opened location in Isla Vista popped up in my search results. Apparently they opened this past weekend on Saturday. I wouldn’t have known based on how nicely set up the store was. The employee and daughter Ana greeted me. She helped me decide what toppings I wanted on my Classic bowl; even though toppings are unlimited. I almost always get the same items because I know what I’ve enjoyed (nido, cashews, peanut butter, blueberries, bananas, and honey). The space is decorated all cute with swinging chairs that make a perfect Instagram photo. Although there are many açai places in town, (Backyard Bowls, Blenders, CAJÉ, etc.), OakBerry is always on the top of my list. Coffee beverages are soon to come once they’ve perfected everything. “I came into the store and asked the man at the counter if he could check my 7-11 Rewards account to see if it had a free Slurpee on it the other day. I either didn't have enough points or it wasn't working, and I was prepared to come back after I had built up some points or had some money with me to buy one (I didn't at the time), but to keep a long story short, the man donated his 7-11 Rewards points to me to buy me a free Slurpee! He said he had 50,000 points, and that he wouldn't mind at all. Perhaps he could tell how tired and thirsty I was -- I have been packing and moving on my own for the past week! This random act of kindness got him and this store a 5-star review. Shout out to you -- you know who you are! “The place is quiet enough and the room is pretty large as not to feel cramped. For a place in IV, they have the best ramen around - not on par with Nikka Ramen but easily accessible. Their highlight is obviously their curry. I have tried both their tonkatsu and chicken curries and enjoyed them a lot. Upgrade to a large serving for the full experience: small servings are on the disappointing side when it comes to the quantity of curry in the bowl. Their curry refill policy is a bit awkward and I have yet to experiment with it so I can fully understand its extent. Overall a nice experience and a nice place to go in IV!”

I went for the soft opening and while it wasn't perfect, they did all they could to make the service amazing, and it worked. They also serve Mala Tang, which I tried, and it was really good. The medium spicy is exactly as it sounds like. They also have other items I haven't tried yet but I will definitely go back for more!”

“Ate in with my family on December 22. They became an all-you-can eat for about $20 and the sushi served is on plates in rolls, freshly made by the chef right beyond the counter. We think the food is pretty good and worth the price. The place is a little quiet and not as busy as others, and quite peaceful. Bathrooms are clean and the staff is attentive. Would recommend.”

Asked for the Fish and Chips for only $5.99 thinking it was going to be small but it was pretty big; definitely a plus. Found out the bartender was working by herself so she had to make drinks AND cook our food. Kinda ridiculous and felt bad about it. Had I known she was also making our food before I signed my tip I would have given her more. Cool place though - check it out.”

Regarding the service, Dumpling King is not a sit down restaurant with a waiter--I don't even think you have the option to pay a tip. You go up to the counter, order your food, pick it up from the counter when it's done, and sit down and eat it. It's similar to a fast food style restaurant. Since there is intentionally no service in the first place, I don't understand what there is to complain about regarding the service.”
