Bún Riêu Cua Tân Định

Address: 999 Story Rd UNIT 9045, San Jose, CA 95122, USA

Restaurant

“Bún Riêu Cua Tân Dinh It’s a new restaurant located inside Vietnam Town, Little Saigon, between Walmart and the Grand Century, the same owners of Nuoc Mía Viên Dong sugarcane & dessert shop in the same building, just slightly in the back! Plenty of outdoor tables, perfect for summer and dog friendly, plenty of parking spaces on the right side complex of this plaza! If you know where to look! Bún Riêu was solidly good. They come with congealed blood cake, tofu, a piece of ham, but not enough RIÊU itself. They used what tasted like CUA DÔNG, South East Asia soft shell crab and egg only, no dried shrimp nor ground pork like some other restaurants would use! They give you generous fresh herbs and veggies: Rau Muong shredded Vietnamese Water Spinach, Rau Chuoi shredded Babana Blossom, herbs, lime, beans sprouts... Love their fresh chili sauce at the table! It gives it a touch of freshness! Bún Mám is kind of like Vietnamese Fermented Fish & seafood (prawn, squid, fish, porkbelly), bone broth, egg plant, lemongrass, chive stew-like. The noodle is similar to the rice noodle of BÚN BÒ HUÊ’ rice vermicelli, slightly chewier. The broth is heavily flavorful, thicker, on the saltier side... There’s less than a handful places in San Jose serves this, but those places made it too sweet (lot of sugar), Bún Riêu Tân Dinh made this solidly good. The aroma is incredibly pungent that will drive non-Vietnamese customers right out the door. But if you can handle it. It’s quite tasty and satisfied to our Vietnamese guests on a cold day! Bánh Canh, a tapioca/rice clear thick noodle soup, similar to udon style, wasn’t as good and it needs more topping, less noodle! The service is really slow.... like turtle slowwwww! 30 minutes to get my Bún Riêu out... 45 mins later, Bánh Canh didn’t make it, so we packed it togo. Steamed Escargot/snail Chã, ham-like with lemongrass, wrapped in banana leave, serves with Nuoc Cham (mixes sweet & tangy fish sauce), was good, or that it took so long for the Bún Riêu to come out, I ate all of it! HA. The servers are nice and genuinely apologetic about the long wait. They need to work out the kinks. The young girl was a cashier... their credit card system didn’t work on our visit, so CASH was the method of payment. The little girl cashier could crack a smile would be nice. I understand she’s helping her parents! I feel bad for her! A lot of pressure and stressful for a teenager on soft opening, but I admire her for helping her parents out. Most kids here when they they their parents are rich, they don’t learn nothing, with that privilege, they don’t go far in life! So kudo for this girl! High ceiling, clustered decor, not a good flow of traffic in and out, hope they figure it out and here to stay! The owners are nice, humbled, and down to earth and I hope they will be success as their Sugarcane shop! I admire kind and genuine folks! I can’t wait to come back to try other dishes! For sweet tooth, you will love all their desserts, juice, and tea here! They have over 2 pages of the menu just for that.”

Bánh Cuôn Bun Moc Ông Ta

Address: 999 Story Rd Ste 9030, San Jose, CA 95122, USA

Restaurant

“Solid Bánh Cuô’n, nice filling, thin layers, sweet and light Nuoc Mam (mixed fish sauce), fresh grounded Thai chili which was nice! Bún Môc at Pho Hà Nôi used to be so good but they stopped serving it! So this would be a go-to spot for those who’s craving for this rare Northern Vietnamese noodle soup. It’s a vermicelli noodle soup with ham, wood ear mushroom meatball, rib and serves with fresh herbs, shredded water spinach and banana blossom, quite light and nice. (Fresh herbs serves similar to Bún Riêu Tân Dinh nearby, hope they can keep this up and not serves less once it settled in!) The mini egg roll comes with Bánh Cuô’n has a nice and light tasty and crispy. The Bánh Cuô’n was served quickly which means they just heat it up but not make yo order! We need to come back in the morning for fresher next time! Small spot, 32 seats max capacity! This place turned over so fast as I changed my shoes & jewelry, HA! 4 different restaurants shuffled in 1.5 years. I hope this place here to stay! Now that Bánh Cuô’n Sàigòn half block over just shut down for good after a year of opening in Vietnam Town. A good kid with glasses were serving me, a nice kid. On this note I saw some server used the same gloves empty trash & handed customers menus! Umm, not a good combo! They are new, so hope they will work out the kinks.”

Ngoc Suong 2 Restaurant

Address: 960 Story Rd, San Jose, CA 95122, USA

Restaurant

“This place offers a lot of traditional Vietnamese dishes and has options that are great for folks that enjoy classics that can only be found in Vietnam. I had the Banh Xeo which wasn't the best I have ever had but it was one of the very few options that could be made without pork. The service was fine -- you just order and when your food comes out, you'll be left alone for the duration of your meal. The dining experience is more quiet on weekdays as I hear this is a popular choice on weekends.”

Wine Affairs

Address: 1435 The Alameda, San Jose, CA 95126, USA

“The host was very welcoming and knows his wines. He made a great recommendation. Nice atmosphere. Not too pricey. They have a good selection of wines. I was not a wine lover before but when I tasted one of their wine flavors which is the Chardonnay, it has a good taste. Love it! Sweet (residual sugar) and sour (acidity) are obviously important components of wine. Have one yours!”

Cardenas Markets

Address: 235 E Julian St, San Jose, CA 95112, USA

Bakery Restaurant

“I like to come here to buy fruits, vegetables and meats, all ate good quality. Also I can find Mexican food ready to eat and Mexican bread. My only comment that is why I'm only giving 4 stars, is that the workers must be educated on how to wear correctly the face mask during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially the ones that are in contact with food. Probably half of the employees are wearing the mask in the right way, but the other half are having the nose exposed. Other than that I recommend the place because of the quality of what they sell here.”
