Delicious. Knowledgeable sommelier. Will definitely come back.

We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. From when we walked through the front door and until we leave the service was perfect. The staff are friendly and accommodating, while also being incredibly knowledgeable about the food and restaurant.

The salmon belly dish was incredible. The ingredients from the salmon down to the ponzu sauce and scallions were of the highest quality to make it perfect.

I was disappointed in the beef dish. The texture of the meat wasn't what I was hoping for from japanese beef.

The wine pairings each complimented the dishes well and the sommelier is knowledgeable in the wines he was serving along with all the other wines in the restaurant. The wines themselves are also fairly affordable so I definitely have some new wines I'll be ordering. The most interesting being the 2002 wine (see screenshot)

Overall it was a good experience but I think it's hard to justify the higher price of this tasting menu compared to other similar restaurants in DC. I would recommend going to kinship which has the same owners but is much more affordable.

We celebrated our anniversary recently at Metier and it was magical.

We Ubered to the restaurant, walked into the restaurant in the same building called Kinship (same ownership - which we’ve also thoroughly enjoyed and I also recommend) told them we had reservations at Metier and they discreetly whisked us down an elevator into the Metier space, which has a cool blend of modern chic and French Country elegance. After that brief elevator ride, we arrived in a little ante room where they served us an aperitif and appetizer and, curiously, took a photo (more on that later) then escorted us to our table for dinner, a cozy oversized two-top behind two large barn doors with only a couple of other tables. A waiter placed a lovely silver candelabra on our table as he arrived, lit the three candles and we crossed into some other world of gastronomic delight.  Oh, yes, the food was magnificent, too.

At the end of the seven course dinner, they presented us with a mini book tied with a ribbon. Inside was a hand written note by the owners, a page detailing the evening’s menu (which had been modified just for us so that it had no red meat) and, on the last page was the small Polaroid photo of us. Lovely keepsake. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

If you are looking for a romantic spot, my vote goes emphatically to Metier.

I'm giving 5 stars for the service, as the staff was excellent. The environment they created was nice. The basement had a tiny nip to it, but it's Winter. The food was good, but comparing it with other 1 Michelin starred restaurants in DC, I should take off a star. So my honest review is more of a 4.5 or 4.3.

We had a non-alcoholic paring for my spouse who was joining me and I found those drinks more interesting and inventive than what I had. I particularly like the one with the cucumber in it, the "Prohibition Cup". If I were to do it again I'd get the same pairing as his and have the one odd glass of wine.

The food was a feast for the eyes. Tastes-wise it didn't always live up to my expectations. Things that were supposed to be crispy got soft quickly. Take too long and you'll miss it. The chocolate ice cream with the fermented whatever, just wasn't appetizing to me.

One thing I can say is that you will not leave hungry. We were stuffed. I was stuffed around the time the beef showed up. Yes, seven little dishes add up.

In the end, we had a good time. Was it $700 worth of a good time? Jury is still out on that. Speaking of $$$, we had to prepay for part of our meal. That was $150 per person for a $200 meal, plus the pairings and gratuity. After the meal, I noticed about $70 more than what I was expecting, and that I figured out (I can't do math buzzed) was the tax.
