The experience at Szalas is definitely awesome! When I first went here, I noticed the front door was locked, but quickly realized there was a long rope off to the side to pull on for ringing their door. A waitress greeted us dressed in full highlander folklore costume as the rest of the staff was too! The portions are definitely large, and you could find almost every Polish dish imaginable on their menu. The interior is wonderful! You feel like you are in a Polish mountain chalet, which has a stuffed bear standing near the entry. Some of the banquettes are designed to look like old wooden sleighs. My Polish friends and I are never impressed with the food as it's never as good as mama would make at home, but our other friends really love the food and decor!
The food is delicious - try the cabbage soup! The inside has a really neat atmosphere - lots of stuff all over the walls, fireplace, and a water wheel out front! Great place to take someone when you're looking for something different.
Super cute ambiance: Pull the bell to get let into the restaurant. Inside is a giant water mill wheel and you have the option of sitting in sleighs. The waitresses wear traditional polish garb and everywhere you look is traditional polish woodwork.
Great food: Go get your borscht and cabbage roll on.
Great service: all the wait staff is super nice and helpful in navigating you through the menu.
The food was delicious and fresh. The owner and staff are courteous and friendly. Definitely going there again.
The service was very attentive and the food is truly like if your eating in Poland. The moskol -a pancake like appetizer-was only found here. The Krupnik for after dinner adult drinks finished off a great meal. The decor feels like your sitting at a Polish highlanders small town home.
