“Very nice Mom & Pop place to stop and have some home cooking. Was on my way home after buying a car in Decorah IA and just happen to see this place. My friend and I stopped in for a bite to eat. The waitress Becky was very friendly and welcoming. She provided some of the best customer service ever. The ambience was homely and very comfortable. The food smelled good and was hot. I had the Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and gravy with garlic bread. Now that's home cooking!! My friend had the comfort food of a Pattie Melt on Texas Toast w/crinkly fries. I must say everything was delicious and I had some to take home. Stars across the board for Country Cottage Cafe! You cant be the prices here. This place got it going on! If you're passing through Olwein IA, stop and get your eat on here. They also have breakfast all day. They were also Themed for Halloween!!”

“When deciding whether to eat at the White House or David's, I was pretty skeptical since he does not have any reviews about his restaurant. I went with my gut feeling on this one and boy oh boy was I happy I did! First off, his place is just a couple miles outside the wonderful town of St. Lucas, Iowa. You have to take a gravel road for about a mile, but once you crest over the hill, you will see his single silo, and red brick house of a farm that was once a bustling part of Iowa's america heritage. When you pull up, David will personally greet you at the door with either a hello, hand shake, or if hes "good" friends with you, he will give you a BIG ol' hug. Entering his place, you will get the aroma of years of treating folks to a good time. Dave will first sit you down and share a drink or two, while he prepares the food. Prepared to be wined and dined! He has a vintage 1990's 32 inch TV that comes complete with an original Xbox. For the wrestling fans out there, he loves to watch those behemoths battle to the death. After a while, of conversation about "life", he will bring you into the kitchen where he has a nice 1960's retro table set up. Here is where he will serve you either a choice of: Mustard, Ketchup, Horseradish, and if you are really lucky he might have some bologna or summer sausage in the meat drawer. Personally, I was not hungry, so I just came for some drinks and a good conversation. He only drinks one kind of drink that he calls "diesel". It was very good. After a few drinks, time flew by and it was getting late, so I had to wrap things up. He offered me to stay in one of his 4 bedrooms upstairs. I had no idea it was a bed a breakfast, because it was not listed as such, but it was a nice surprise. I had to reluctantly decline his offer. He was visibly hurt, but setting for a long hug instead. As much as a gentleman as he was, he followed me out my car and gave me a final hug, before I rode off. I forgot to mention that he has a basketball hoop in the driveway so it would be a great place to bring young kids who aspire to be a basketball player someday. Thanks again Dave for everything. I hope your business thrives in this economy. Will recommend to friends and family!”

“Great staff! Very clean. Made sure we had everything and asked several times if we wanted or needed anything. Great burgers and the hot wings were very good. The wings had a hot sauce on the skin under the breading. I’ve never seen that before and it was very very good. My mushroom Swiss burger came with enough mushrooms I had extra to eat when done! I personally like that. I’d give that burger a top 5 mushroom Swiss burger rating!. I’ve eaten them at every place that has them on the menu in the Tri states and this one is just fabulous!”

“This place is amazing. Having lived in California for five years this is a refreshing experience. I ordered the California burrito with fries in it and was reminded of San Diego. My husband loves spice and usually in Iowa the hottest they have is Tabasco but when he ordered his fajitas extra spicy I could see the sweat on his face and the enjoyment in his eyes. Also amazing service and a great margarita!!”

“Love the building! This used to be the bus barn for the school district, hard to believe it now. We came in with a larger party, separate bills, waitress was a bit overwhelmed at first, but every ticket was correct, she got the food to the correct person and paid special attention to the little one that was with us. We went on a Thursday night and the offer a $0.99 special. It was good!”

“One of our favorite local places in NE Iowa. It's upstairs and they have a balcony, which is great in good weather. They specialize in gourmet flatbread dishes and have many gluten free options. The truffle chips are also excellent and we get them every time we go. They mix up the menu from time to time, so you can try new things when you come back. The owners are super nice and Fayette is only 10 minutes south of West Union. Well worth the trip!”

“Small menu, very good pizza. You should know going in that the menu is only pizza - no breadsticks, no appetizers, no kid's menu, no sides. Two beers on the menu: Bud Light and Busch Light. If you're fine with those limitations, then rest assured that the pizza and service is really great. Tasty crust on our pepperoni pizza - not too thin, not too thick. Lots of cheese. Taco pizza was very good, too. Friendly server. Lots of people coming in to pick up carry-out orders. Would definitely eat here again when we're in the area.”

“Very nice campground! Love the beach and splash pad area for the kids. They have on site tubing and offer a shuttle service to bring you back. The river was extremely low when we went so I would suggest checking the river levels before you go (unless you want to walk the whole time). The only negative I have is that the campsites are pretty small and close together, but it wasn't an issue. Our neighbors were pretty awesome!”

“A really nice restaurant with lovely people running it. Just wish they would invest in a grill hood to air out the smoke from cooking. It was starting to get hard to breathe in there! I don’t know how the staff stand it.”
