Early Bird Brunch

The service was TOP notch and so appreciated, even when packed.. so why the lower review? Honestly, I'm well aware the cost of food is crazy right now, but even so, their prices are high, especially for what you get for some dishes. Other dishes appeared to be more worthy of the cost, but still, prices seem jacked overall. (I mean, $7 whole dollars just to add 2 eggs and a choice of bacon or sausage to your pancakes? When 2 pancakes are already over $12... that's insane.) As far as flavor, some things were tasty and others were lackluster.

The pictured dish is $15.50 and includes the eggs and bacon (or sausage). It's supposed to be cinnamon rolls, dipped in batter, and grilled like french toast style. Was tasty, but small "cinnamon rolls."

We were big fans of our experience at the Early Bird in Ankeny and our server Carla. She recommended the special tots for an appetizer and they were tasty. The options are many and I am sure anyone can find something to enjoy from the menu. My wife enjoyed the breakfast pot pie and said she would order it again. I opted for a Sandwhich and some cinnamon roll french toast. Both were great! The grits were on point as well, but I am a sucker for andoullie sausage. All in all we were happy and will return.

The staff allowed us to choose our own seats because they weren't busy. It was a Tuesday before 11am. Our server was also the bartender and she kicked butt! She greeted us with waters, drinks came out swiftly, and all the food was made just as we ordered! Everything was perfect! The food was absolutely delicious!

We went on a Sunday morning, and sat at the bar to avoid a long wait. It was very busy, but very good! We will be back. I had a beermosa and the avocado number, and would get botb again. My husband had a triple bacon bloody mary that he would skip, but he absolutely loved his chicken fried steak plate. We shared the croquettes as a starter and they were excellent. Highly recommend, but know that it will be very busy on a weekend day.
