Scalawags Whitefish & Chips

This was a great restaurant tucked off the main street in an outdoor mall. The whitefish and chips was absolutely delicious! The restaurant isn't very big. You order at the counter and then sit and wait for the food to come to your table. It is pretty quick and completely mouthwatering. If you are in Mackinaw City, you must visit this place. They close a little early on weeknights, so don't miss out.

Excellent whitefish in mackinaw city!! My parents had been a few times & we decided to try it during a trip home from the UP. Delicious!! Kids loved it too. Fresh, hot fish! If it’s a nice day, eat outside on their patio.

The food was delicious. I cannot begin to describe how wonderful it was. I had the walleye and it melted in my mouth. My wife had the perch and it was equally as wonderful. The service was fast and friendly. My daughter had the shrimp which was big and juicy. Everything was fried with a fluffy crust that wasn’t too overbearing. The only down side was how small the place was but it added to the setting. Love this place and recommend it as a must eat if in Mackinaw.

Get the whitefish, the perch was good, but the whitefish was better. The first time I can truly say I enjoyed whitefish, normally it’s fishy, but really good here! And they serve Pepsi products, always a plus! The hush puppies weren’t my style. Not saying they were bad, I just prefer sweet hush puppies. Food was made to order, Fries really hot and fresh as well as the fish

Very prompt service with a friendly staff. Food was served hot. Batter was more of a beer batter rather than a crunchy batter. Slaw was fresh and Pepsi fountain was self serve. Shrimp was very tasty and tasted fresh. They had a variety of condiments. They had indoor and outdoor seating but there are signs all over telling you not to eat your carryout there. Tables were clean. Restroom was busy-might want to avoid sitting next to it, if you are able. It did not smell nor was it dirty, it just had people walking past quite often. They had a nautical theme decor. Hidden gem of Mackinaw City!
