This was a great experience. Had a large and fresh portion of perch. The place was very clean and decorated with fishing gear. I highly recommend, and I will stop here again when I'm in town.
Tried this place out while in Travers today. Hands down the best perch I have ever had! Also love the unique atmosphere! Will be back next time in town!
Scalawags has more than lived up to its reputation for serving fresh Great Lakes fish at its finest.
The fresh walleye sandwich is as good as any “shore lunch” prepared by the guide in the northern wilderness lakes in the U. S. & Canada !!
The dining area isn’t just AMERICANA; it’s CASUAL MICHIGANA !!! Don’t miss this stop if you like fresh fish. It’s a really cool place, including the ultra-friendly service.

Food was pretty good! My boyfriend ordered a 10 piece shrimp and said it was great. If you're looking for fish and shrimp it's a great place to come! My only recommendations are that they have some sort of sign about the seating! It's a tad confusing at first. What you do is go up to the counter, order your food and pay for it, and then grab a seat and they bring it out to you. Walking in the side entrance we couldn't see the "order here" sign and stood there figuring out if it was a restaurant style method of eating or not! Also, it took quite a long time before the shrimp came out, I think I got through an episode of whatever was on the TV before it arrived. It seemed longer than most restaurants and the customer level seemed average but not super busy at the time. Decor is sea themed and even has cool old-school boat motors around!
Four star review with five star taste. White fish and the shrimp were both excellent, with good coleslaw and crispy fries. You order at the counter and they run you the food. Casual atmosphere and good fisherman decor.
Negatives - They bring the food in a basket, so no real silverware or plates, and the drink is self serve out of your plastic cup. No waiters. Also the price is a bit much, but the taste is worth it.
