Wow! Like stepping into an elegant dream. I don't normally like lobster, but I could down those lobster deviled eggs all day! Be sure to order a Fitzgerald and plan on spending some time here just taking it all in.
I’ve made a terrible mistake. For the life of me I am not sure why this place was not on my radar sooner, but my wife suggested it for our anniversary dinner. After reviewing the menu and pics we gladly made the reservation.
I am glad we did as everything from the food to the room to the great service exceeded our expectations. Well done!
Please do start with a fine cocktail and the well curated cheese plate. Then it is off to the meat. Both of our steaks was perfectly done and delicious. Make haste to the Commodore!
The staff, atmosphere and food here are outstanding. Possibly the best New York strip steak we've ever had (and we've had a lot!) And the smoked butter and Parker rolls were heavenly.
Also it was very clean and well kept, with a special space set up for the social conditions needed right now. I felt like we were in good hands. A++
I'll break down my experience/observations here:
- Atmosphere: Beautiful Art-Deco inspired place - very ritzy interior with jazz music played throughout.
- Dress Code: I recommend at least smart-casual.
- Cocktails: The cocktails are top notch. I had two drinks: an Old-Fashioned, and their signature cocktail, "The Commodore". Both were excellent.
- Food: Their menu is rather limited and a tad overpriced, through the food itself was prepared and presented well.
I would have given 5 stars, but I waited for 30 mins to get seated for my 7:15 reservation, which was made days in advance. No other knocks otherwise.
A really swanky place, replete with silver-framed mirrored hallways and walls, to a Deco bar that will make you catch your breath. Dine here, lounge here, cocktail here, be seen here...it's a luxurious getaway with that speakeasy feel that gangster-era St. Paul is famous for. Happy hours are best...but an hour is best if you're feeling like sporting for something decadent. Casual, dress-up, or just hanging with your friends, you'll find the Commodore more than a little welcoming.
