Love their mission. The food is excellent however I think the prices are a little to high. The last couple of times me and family went into there, there seemed to be some kind of trouble with other customers outside the restaurant where the police were called don’t know what happened but there was definitely a lot of yelling between some young kids. It was kind of a turn off, take root has always been a place we try to by stop to support when we are in town visiting cause we loved what they were doing. When in town this last time we were sad to see that they were closed, as I said food is excellent and service is wonderful, love their mission. But prices were too high and the incidents we saw the couple of times that we were there didn’t sit well. My daughter said they might think of reopening again in the future, we wish them nothing but best.
I had walked by several times and never tried it. Big mistake! I had no idea how charming the atmosphere was, or how exceptional the food would be. I got my food to go, but would have been comfortable eating in during Covid. The ceilings are tall, the tables are spread out, ventilation seemed good and they had a sanitation station right inside the front door. The menu was varied and I was excited to see some choices you don't uusuallybfind in Kirksville like the awesome falafel sandwich I got. The sandwich was delicious and filling and the salad fresh and bright. It was well worth the suggested donation. In will be making it an regular stop as I work downtown.

Locals had recommended this restaurant to me, and I was fortunate enough to be able to go to it for a work meeting while in town. It did not disappoint. The environment is unique, and the concept is even more original. This is the first restaurant that I have been to that allows you to give a donation and lists prices at the suggested amount. What a cool concept! For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Verde, and it was an excellent choice. The cilantro, jalapeño, and guacamole were mixed and combined perfectly, and it really gave the chicken and sandwich as a whole a lot of flavor. Importantly, none of these was too overpowering compared to the other two. The toasted wheat bread also complimented the sandwich well. Everything seemed very fresh. I will definitely go again for lunch the next time that I am in town.
Take Root has, by far, the best food of any restaurant in Kirksville! All of their ingredients are fresh, local and seasonal. We have never been disappointed with any of our meals. The suggested donation prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is welcoming and wonderful. Take Root also hosts a lot of great fundraisers and events, and is a fantastic community organization!
Our only complaint is that they aren’t open on Mondays, because there have been too many Monday’s where we are dying for Take Root and have to settle for something else!!
Fantastic food, great service, and an even better purpose. We've always enjoyed everything we've ordered in past, especially the pork tacos and falafel. They recently added a burger to the menu which we tried on our last lunch there just a few weeks ago... It was AMAZING! The signature sauce was so tasty and the whole burger was well constructed and tasted like fresh ingredients. Will definitely get the burger again!
