Pricey, but wow are you getting what you paid for. The only thing I would say is way over priced is their wings, but they are still delicious!

The food is cooked to that Kansas City Sweet and Smokey perfect. The service is fantastic and they provide you will plenty for leftovers.

Man, do I love their BBQ!

We were on a mission to determine who had the best overall barbecue in Kansas City and Q39 won by a small margin because each of the restaurant we tried had something we liked best. The restaurant had a limited parking lot so either get there early or late or you will need to park across a busy roadway. We went for a late lunch so we managed to capture a space when someone was pulling away. The 4 of us shared orders of sausages, combo, brisket, fries, chopped salad, and Mac and cheese. The chicken was unanimously chosen as the best of the 3 we sampled. The meat was moist, cooked perfectly and there was a sweetness in their secret sauce. Brisket was tasty but a bit lean which may have been the reason why it was a bit drier than the other restaurants we sampled. Apple crumble was the restaurant’s version and was a great choice. The restaurant had a warm and homey ambiance with an open kitchen so you can watch the meals being assembled.

Melt in your mouth brisket and ribs where the meat falls off the bone. The portions could be bigger for a 3 meat platter for $21.00 but the Smoked meats is simply amazing. Q needs to give a bit more food for the prices.

I also tried Joe's Kansas City BBQ and both are comparable. However the Brisket at Joe's has better smoke flavor.

If anyone is visiting Kansas City, Q39 is a "must eat stop" if you love BBQ!

Wow very impressive! First off I sat at the bar and the service and server was great! The food order was quick and the food arrived very fast. The apple coleslaw was very good, just a bit of apple to give it crunch and a bit of tartness, absolutely delicious. The brisket plate came with both slices and a few burnt ends. Both meats were incredibly tender and tasty. The ends melt in your mouth and have just the right amount of fat to keep them moist and flavorful. The brisket was also very tender with the right amount of smoke and seasoning. Both the standard sauce and the spicy sauces were very good, the spicy isn’t too hot and I think I tasted a touch of cilantro; it was great!

Place was absolutely packed, was able to sneak into the bar seating and got served very quickly. Bartenders were very friendly and were quick to offer recommendations on items as newbies there. I ordered the pick two competition plate, got the brisket and ribs. Wow. As a BBQ aficionado and caterer the ribs were perfect, great smoke ring and pulled off the bone easily while still leaving a little on it. The brisket had perfect flavor and the sauce was the perfect accent. Got to try all 3 flavors they offered and have to say my favorite was the vinegar based sauce. The other couple we were with got the wings and I'm excited to try them next time I'm in town. Can't wait to go back!!
