Wow! What a comeback from the team at Olar. What was already the top restaurant for northern jersey folk and rockland county locals has seemingly gotten even better. Most probably feared Olar would lose its charm or fail to deliver the same quality, but the team has managed to pull off the exact opposite. The food is better then ever, and the larger venue offers a warm and lively vibe. Not to mention... parking is no longer an issue! Super proud of the Dominguez boys you managed to make a great thing even better!
We’ve been going to Olar for 10 years now and it is still our favorite restaurant in the world. We live close to 2hrs away now but still make the trek a few times a year. We’ve seriously never had another but amazing dishes here. I think the 1 star reviews because someone couldn’t get in are ridiculous. I understand frustrations, but if you know the reservation policy it’s pretty simple and well worth it. The owner and staff have always been so accommodating. Years ago when my wife was pregnant with our first child we swung by without a reservation just to see if they had a free table, knowing it would probably be in vein. They of course were full, but the owner offered us to sit at the bar which was fine by us. A few minutes later the owner comes over again and says he can’t let my pregnant wife sit at the bar and made a table for us. His kindness meant the world to us and made us fans for life. I wish them best of luck with the new location and we’ll be going back soon.
It was worth the wait! We ended up going with another couple and loved, loved -loved the food and service. We split the mussels, artichoke pizza and the best calamari we have ever had. The Portobello mushroom was succulent and exploded with tastes of the Mediterranean. The tastes were unlike any other restaurant I have found in this area. This is now my "go to" restaurant for our couple friends who love great authentic cuisine. Sure it a it is not that easy to get into, but I admire the integrity of the owners' as the place the quality of the food and experience over the short term benefit of overbooking and then making patrons wait for hours before their actually seated. There are plenty of restaurants in this area that will make you wait for a table, but not many who's love for their food and culture take precedence over short term profit. I can't recommend this place enough! Great experience.
