I came with a friend who got black coffee and their paleo bowl. I got a iced matcha latte and the classic Benny (in photo). Food and drinks were great! My friend ended up ordering a beet salad with salmon for another friend to go and a crossiant to try while I ordered another iced matcha latte and cinnamon roll to go. The pastries were yummy. “For someone who loves BBQ and has had her fair share of delicious BBQ from NY to Texas, this truly is absolutely delicious and now one of my favorites!! My 3 year old daughter who doesn’t even like Mac n cheese, devoured hers! The chicken was super tender and juicy. The sauces were SPOT ON. I wish I was able to try the ribs, but they had sold out just before I got there - can’t imagine why!!! The coleslaw, which is vinegar-based - did not disappoint, that is for sure (I couldn’t get enough)!! The atmosphere is relaxed, clean and has a great, low key vibe. I look forward to the live music and yummy brews next time I visit. The Pale Horse is a bit of a hidden gem in downtown Oneonta and in my opinion a must have!!!”

Wish this place was closer to home but would go back. Oatmeal stout was fantastic.”

Roadhouse 23

Address: 2957 NY-23, West Oneonta, NY 13861, USA

Restaurant

“3 stars because it’s Covid and things are tough to begin with. The atmosphere was great and everything else was not. In the end it was not worth what we paid, but the prices were reasonable to begin with. It started with watered down drinks. Even the tea part of my captain tea was water! We went to Roadhouse 23 because that DAY I heard a commercial on the radio for prime rib dinner -which they weren’t serving. It ended with our appetizer coming out after our dinner which also took over an hour to arrive. The portions were definitely on the small side, although cooked well. They were clearly having a rough night -as the owner told us there was a calllout. (Which I feel is unprofessional because the customer shouldn’t pity the business) I watched a man wait over 10 minutes at the bar for a PICKUP. I’ll direct this next part directly to you, Jeff. I understand you don’t know what to expect in covid dinning, however, if there is a call out and you don’t know how to wait on tables, you have to call someone else in. If they need help in the kitchen, as the owner you should be 100% prepared to jump in and assist. If your wife -I assume- doesn’t know how to make drinks, you MUST hire a bartender. Owning a restaurant is a huge privilege; it’s more hard work than profit. Also, please don’t tell us you were trying to give the other couple free steaks while we paid full price. Our favorite thing about Oneonta is the unique small restaurants it offers. As a couple we are extremely understanding and patient in this college town. We love supporting locals, but at this point I would say it is not worth the drive out there.”
