We live in Chapel Hill but we have been there dozens of times although the driving is half hour. It's a nice place with great authentic Chinese dishes. You can ask chef to prepare your dish at your level of spicy. There are many choices so we can go there regularly and rotate dishes easily.
As others have mentioned, the English menu is somewhat limited: this is disappointing. Anyway, the lo mein was very good, as was the kung pao chicken. I thought the chap chae was a bit smoky tasting, but my dining companion liked it. The spicy pork bulgogi was very good, but I thought serving it on a too-small sizzling metal platter was a bit silly, a hot bowl might have served the purpose better and been easier to serve out of. Overall I'd give the food 4 to 4.5 stars: not the very best I've ever had, but in the top tier.
The service was adequate, but not wonderful: the place was nearly empty, but we kept having to flag our waitress down to get her attention. Her manner was a bit supercilious and unfriendly. She seemed to have the attitude that we were ignorant guailou and therefore didn't deserve her respect. (She was much nicer and more attentive to the Chinese couple next to us.)
I'll go back for the food, but will hope for better service next time.
The go-to place when we have a big group out and try to have a decent place for Chinese food.
Overall, a lot of good choices with quality food and very reasonable prices. And it amazes me they are actually quite authentic Chinese food, considering they are good at two genre: the spicy Szechuan style & the northeastern Chinese style.
Highly recommended to anyone who is new to the area or visiting the town. You simply can't miss it.
This is a great place to have a relaxing dinner. The parking is usually squished. We only got Chinese menus, but I'm sure they offer English ones as well. There are lots of selections for food, and the service is pretty fast. The food is fresh, authentic, and delicious and the portions are large for the price. For lunch, we ordered shrimp soup and chicken soup. In both, the noodles were average but the soup's flavor was good. In the evening, we ordered other dishes and they were much more delicious and flavorful. The furniture is good and the presentation of the food is good. Overall, a good place to have a nice meal.
Szechuan style pork belly, leeks and dried tofu, sauerkraut soup with sliced pork belly were all quite tasty. Service very nice. Separate English and Mandarin menus. Authentic North Chinese cuisine. Stop by and enjoy are hearty meal with large portions and good prices.
