We were recommended by locals to visit this place and was very pleased! The restaurant actually looks like something out of a Christmas village, so wonderful & quaint! Once inside, we were greeted with a large glass case of their famous cream puffs the size of softballs, along with various pastries of German chocolate cake, French silk pies and more. Although the restaurant was crowded, we were seated almost immediately. Since it was our first time there, we opted for the buffet. There were various types of German sausages, pastas, potato salads, 1 type of soup, rolls, etc. Everything we tried was exceptional! My husband & I ordered their hot buttered rum which was absolutely delicious. Service was wonderful! Overall, I can see why this place came highly recommended. Wonderful food, ambiance & service! Just sad we can't take this restaurant home with us lol

This place was phenomenal they have a buffet there that is so good and very authentic! we had the most entertaining guy playing the accordion for us it was something special if I can find my pictures I will definitely post a picture! oh my gosh I may have these phenomenal desserts also let me tell you the cream puffs were like gigantic and so many different flavors. Really good service too servers are so friendly and nice. The next time I'm in the Columbus area I'm definitely going to go there again! I highly recommend this place for the food, the atmosphere, and the fun!!!

The food at Schmidt's is not my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of German food in general, and I like the way Wurst und Bier serves up schnitzel, my favorite German dish, better than Schmidt's does. Still, if you are a fan of German food, or just a fan of unique, destination dining, you owe it to yourself to visit Schmidt's. This place attracts lots of tourists, but it is also a local favorite. German Village is a beautiful, historic Columbus neighborhood, and Schmidt's is a deserving anchor and part of its charm. Although most of the menu just isn't my cup of tea, one huge exception to this is the famous Schmidt's cream puff. All other cream puff pale in comparison. I've been known to hunt down one of Schmidt's food trucks visiting my neighborhood just to get a cream puff. They are so good!

This place wins awards for their food and friendliness. Located in German Village, they are a magnet for tourists and locals. They sponsor activities in the village (like a Christmas light display) which helps the community. Parking behind the restaurant is convenient. The Bahamas Mama sausage may be too spicy for some, but it is the right precursor for the cream puffs or chocolate pie. The buffet has traditional German foods and they are delicious!

We stopped here for lunch while in Columbus for an overnight stay. The food and ambiance were amazing. The sausages were flavorful and on point. The sides were excellent. The red cabbage and German potato salad were well flavored and balanced, not too sweet. My wife had a chicken dish with a basil cream sauce that was outstanding.
You must get one of the enormous cream puffs. Perfect end to our meal.
If ever in Columbus, this is a must for great German food.
