“Frustrating. We came here despite the negative reviews about service because we are pretty flexible and are here for the food. However the service here is just terrible, most of the staff looked about 18 so perhaps it is a manager or training issue. I have currently been sitting here for 56 mins and have not yet gotten the milk for my coffee nevermind our brunch.. and I have asked several servers. I will say the ambiance is lovely, but the staff needs major adjustments and training. Also as a covid note.. the girl refilling waters was going table to table touching each glass with the rim of the jug, passing all of our germs to the other diners. Update: we got the food and it was delicious so updated it to 3 stars”

“The food was just perfect. Coming from someone who is from the South, the owner of this place knows some southern food recipes. The fried pickles and corn bread were to die for. I got the fish and chips just because I wanted some New England food while visiting (the fries were seasoned perfectly and the fish was breaded and delicious), but my family got some southern food such as the brisket and the pork shoulder Mac and cheese. I approve because the food was yummy and they know how to do the big portions like the south. Such a hidden southern food gem in a New England town! Not to forget, the service was amazing. Our waitress checked on us several times and constantly kept our drinks filled! YOU HAVE TO TRY THE BANANA PUDDING! So delicious!”

“I meant to leave a response earlier when I rated this 5 stars. We arrived at The Reef quite late on Saturday night looking for a place that we could relax and order some cocktails and a few apps. We had a large party. The service from the bartenders and ?manager was outstanding. We were able to sit outside and even though it was starting to rain, they accommodated us by opening enough umbrellas to cover all of us. It was a great nice. We were a happy but loud party. The food was exceptional. The chicken/skewers were so good and the seafood was fresh. I can’t wait to revisit this hidden gem next time we visit Newport!!”
