The General Stanton Inn

My wife and I elected a 'dine and stay' package to celebrate New Year's Eve at the General Stanton Inn, which we enjoyed immensely.

The owners did a great job of retaining the Inn's incredible historic charm, while remodeling the rooms and kitchen/bar.
Our room was impeccable, the owner and staff could not be more accommodating, and our dinner was awesome in a relaxed atmosphere. Bonus - live music from the Van Pelt duo was a lot of fun. We may have found our new NYE tradition.

We live about 30 minutes from the Inn, and we're planning to grab dinner at the restaurant again soon.

We recently celebrated our wedding at the General Stanton Inn, and it was truly memorable. The rooms were impeccably clean, reflecting a delightful New England charm that our family adored.

For our rehearsal dinner, we chose the inn's restaurant and were impressed. Among the delectable dishes, the pork chop with mashed potatoes and carrots stood out as the unanimous favorite.

A special thanks to Jackie and David, the inn's owners, who were incredibly kind and attentive throughout our planning. If you're considering the General Stanton Inn for any event, we highly recommend it for its warmth and hospitality.

For the second year our neighbors held our Christmas Party/Dinner at the General Stanton. Now for the second year you provided us a wonderful get together. There were 10 of us which was perfect for the Roosevelt Room. Our own room with great service and the food was outstanding. Look forward to our 3rd party next December.

We haven’t stayed in the rooms yet so we cannot comment on how good the experience will be.

Tonight a good friend and I went to the general Stanton restaurant to try the new chef’s work. The entire experience was great. The restaurant is beautiful. The ambiance is quaint and we sat under some sound baffling which is a touch I wish more restaurants would add to their historic spaces.

We started the meal with the fried calamari appetizer paired with a bottle of camelopard Sauvignon blanc. It was a fun selection for a casual night out and suggested to us by the server. We enjoyed the pairing. The calamari was crispy and tender with a nice touch of marinara and peppers.

For entrees I ordered the pan roasted statler chicken breast dinner and continued with the Sauvignon blanc. The chicken was perfectly cooked: tender and juicy with a nice exterior crisp. I love goat cheese so the filling was phenomenal. The sides were also perfectly prepared, squash and fingerling potatoes. The veloute was light and flavorful. My friend ordered the braised short ribs paired with an old fashioned. I tried this meal as well and think it was a comforting classic meal with decadent flavor. The braised short ribs were fork tender and so moist on a bed of delicious broccolini and mashed potatoes with au jus. You just can’t go wrong with this dinner.

For dessert we chose to stay for the bar event music bingo which was fun and not so loud that we couldn’t enjoy our quiet conversation at our table. We had the skillet chocolate chip cookie with vanilla gelato. A classic pair. This is a properly made skillet cookie with fresh dough in a real skillet. I have ordered this at a couple other restaurants in the state and I am usually disappointed with the texture of the cookie. The new chef here does it right.

We will definitely be back for several more nights at the general stanton inn restaurant.

We had a wonderful stay at this well-appointed inn. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They were eager to make the stay perfect. The inn is a beautiful building that is kept in excellent shape. They have done a great job of highlighting the historic past while also keeping the amenities modern, such as the recently renovated bathroom in our room. We are looking forward to our next stay at the General Stanton inn and visit to lovely Charlestown!
