The hostess, kitchen, and service staff were all friendly. Curtis was our server and he was knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere was a great mix of retro dinner and contemporary decor. The menu was impressive. Shared the homemade chips with friends. They are cut like ruffles and had an excellent crunch. We didn't get one soggy weird chip among the plate, which is not usually the case with chips made in house. The star of the meal was the chicken and waffles. I gotta tell you two things about fried chicken and my perspective - I don't usually order or prefer bone in chicken and I strongly prefer spicy. This chicken was bone in and not spicy, but it was the most delicious crispy crunchy fried chicken I've ever had. Those waffles with the strawberry butter were just immaculate. Fluffy waffle pillows on which rest a scoop of the enticing pink strawberry butter. This was absolutely amazing, two of the 3 of us had ordered it, and both of us felt the same way. If you're thinking about eating here, do it. I will be back and it will be soon, because if the shrimp and grits are as good as the chicken and waffles...

Friendly service, the wife ordered the jalopeno burger and I ordered the Ruben. We also ordered the cheesy tots. I had a bite of her burger it had a good flavor. My Ruben, had a generous portion of corn beef, but the bread was soggy on one side and was not what I would consider a sandwich, more like a covered open face. The tots were descent but pricey. I've had better lunches for less.

I'd say this is one of my favorite places to go for lunch/ brunch. The atmosphere is beyond wonderful and fun. The waitress was so funny and attentive. We took over 15 minutes just to decided what to eat and she was so patient and kind to us. And when we finially did order the food came out so quick I was surprised.

Ordered two kids meals chicken with fries and the roast beef tips with mashed potatoes. The fries were ice cold and even my four year old granddaughter noticed right away. The waitress was prompt to have a fresh batch fried up. The roast beef tips with gravy were flavorless and seemed that they were possibly not made fresh. It was like they came out of a can or frozen pack. Even the color and sight was unappealing. It was cut in square cubes and the texture resembled What you would find in a can of canine food. I chose not to complain. I did ask for more gravy and they brought me a different gravy than what came on the original beef tips.. weird..It was a brown color versus the grayish color on my plate. Taste completely different. Portion was huge though. Enough for azad mother meal at home. The staff was extremely nice and even offered to assist me to my car with the leftovers and grand kids. I will definitely give them another try as it is a brand new restaurant. Their kind and caring staff was the best part!

Original: Abysmal experience. Ten minutes to greet us at the table. Took a normal amount of time to get one of two orders. Ten minutes later after one person was done eating with the second persons food still absent, we asked for the check and walked out. The server never once checked on us or the food that was dropped off. Never offered an explanation. Will not recommend or ever come back. Absolutely worst restaurant experience in Charleston we’ve ever had. I suggest you stay local.

Follow up: The manager of Metro Diner reached out to us and invited us back. I can say without a doubt our service was much better, and the restaurant was busier than it was the first time we went. Definitely redeemed themselves and I'm happy to say we had a pleasant time. Tater tot appetizer was great. We both had chicken and unfortunately it was a bit overcooked. But overall the second try at Metro Diner was much better. Thanks for reaching out!
