We absolutely love coming to Gus’s. Great flavor in the chicken and fried green tomatoes and pickles are amazing. Greens here are not your run of the mill collards, not sure what’s different but heads up... you’ll either love or hate them.
Gus’s World Famous, Fried Chicken and Catfish
My server was Melinda; she made sure my order of catfish was hot and fresh.
Melinda brought out my order of catfish with mac and cheese within 10 minutes.
She asked me, if I wanted to try fried chicken as well.
And I said yes, so I had 2 piece white meat breast and wing fried chicken.
The fries chicken on white bread was good.
But Gus’s Fried Catfish, was the best fried fish I ever had.
Each Catfish was $3.00 a piece; I wanted to order a dozen to take home.
Gus’s is now one of my favorite restaurants in Knoxville! I was really impressed with the food and the fact that they serve pie! I am discouraged by the fact that very few restaurants serve pie. Our server, Amy, was nothing short of amazing. She was attentive, charismatic, and personable. I will definitely be coming back to see Amy again but will avoid the other manager Kim. I gathered that was her name based on how she shouted it across the restaurant multiple times. I could not carry on a conversation with my boyfriend because this woman was yelling like a banchy in heat. I can’t imagine working with her. Seriously, they all should be given a raise. That woman is intolerable. I would fire her immediately.
Great place otherwise!! :)
Came to Knoxville to visit my hometown and obviously had to get fried chicken and catfish. There is no better place in Knoxville for fried chicken. We got an order of catfish, fried chicken, fried okra, and for our sides we tried their Mac and cheese and hush puppies. Omg. So. Good. It's a must for anyone who is looking for honest to goodness southern fried chicken
Great chicken! The skin is crispy and the meat is juicy. The slaw is really good but the beans have a bit too much ketchup for my liking. Still not bad. The service was amazingly fast. They have a couple of servers working the floor and runners bringing it the food. I'll be going back!
Update: the beans have improved and they've switched to more servers. Still great chicken in a casual atmosphere.
