Tamale House East

It's hard to find good Mexican food in Austin, but this is one place that does it right. You wouldn't expect Sixth Street to be a source of such quality and very fast service! The tamales are enormous and very well made. The masa is sure to remind you of a Mexican home, but the cocinita taco with aged pork is absolutely no slouch, either! Sit inside for live music, or outside for the relaxing patio.

Some of the best tamales I've had in Austin with great prices for many options in east Austin. The margaritas are pre-mixed which is likely due to the volume they need to accommodate for.

The decor is wonderful and there is a great outdoor seating area. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Authentic Mexican food and amazing tamales. 2nd generation owner operated. Proud family recipes. Extra bonus was there is a women's vintage and super affordable boutique with great light wear fashions at a great value! Great time.

I loved the tamale! It was my very first time eating it and I loved them so much. The fish tacos was so fresh too, and the pork was great. I also enjoyed a wonderful margarita in such a lovely atmosphere. Cannot believe how friendly everyone was with us too, super hospital.
