Shields Tavern

Did the three course meal, got plenty of good food (half a fried chicken!) and the price was not bad. Great atmosphere and the live music was entertaining.

Excellent colonial food and atmosphere. It was 1760s era decor and the staff have a lot of cool colonial knowledge. Recommended!

You will likely encounter a bit of a wait...don't let that deter you. The place is much larger inside than it looks out. Several floors actually. The food and service were both very good. Ask your server about the tunnel beneath the building that connects to the other tavern just up the road.

We really enjoyed Shields Tavern. The free parking a block south was perfectly located. We parked, strolled up and down historic Williamsburg, and then went for our dinner reservation.

The portions were incredibly large (we split meals between us and our kids). The food was really great (braised beef short rib was delicious, fried chicken was equally a hit with the kids). The server was super busy with all the guests in the room but did an EXCELLENT job.

We would definitely come back versus roll the dice with a different place.

Love coming here. We do dinner once or twice a year and Christmas breakfast every year for about 13 years now. The only think I do not like is the chairs and some of the table placements close to the doors. It can be pretty uncomfortable to sit for a long dinner. We enjoy the experience other than that.
