Food and service was great. A great restaurant for the neighborhood of Tangle Town in Wallingford. I look forward to going back

This was just an OK place. A group of five of us arrived for an early-ish brunch on a Saturday. They weren't too busy, and we only noticed a few other tables filled. While service was friendly, I was surprised we were seated right near the entrance to the restroom, considering there were other open tables that could have very easily accommodated our party size, so that was just bizarre.

Most of us ordered their "fried chicken and waffles" for which they are "known" and I wasn't sure why. The waffles themselves were kind of bland, and while the chicken was good, the whole dish together was just......ok? I mean, if you're KNOWN for this dish, then its setting the expectation for things to be really good, but I didn't think there was anything particularly special or well-prepared. I've had much better fried chicken and waffles at hole-in-the-wall places, so not sure what's up with that.

To their credit, however, the Blood Mary was quite good.

I loved this because my classic breakfast was exactly what I wanted. My booth was also super cute and I liked the street view. I can hear my conversation which is hard to say about a lot of brunch places that are too crowded. Also some details are they had a kid's menu when asked and crayons for coloring on the back of it, where there was a coloring page.

Some things I didn't like were that they didn't have apple juice nor a full café for latte's (unless I missed something). My waitress was so on top of refilling my coffee it was like she offered to top it off after I took only one sip! I'm slow at drinking coffee so I can't complain, just beware they are excellent at drink service.

Before coming I've seen mixed reviews making me curious as to what the experience would be like at Burgundian. Some were extremely impressed, while others disappointed in comparison to past experiences at the restaurant. Here's my takeaways:

The price of food is anywhere from 14-19 sometimes more if the special is more specialized. I thought it was reasonable pricing for the food for the most part. (I went for brunch)

I got the chicken and waffles to see what people were talking about, and honestly I thought it was okay but nothing that blew my mind. I got to sample the avocado toast and it was pretty good, but cold. I also asked for extra syrup and without being warned, got charged $2 for it (sad).

My friend got the special (the salmon Benedict) and was impressed with it. So don't get me wrong, there are some good items on the menu!

So overall I don't know if it is worth the journey when options like Portage Bay exist in the same genre, maybe if you live close to it is a good spot. Hope this helps!

Really nice spot on the fringes of Freemont. Sunday brunch options are delightful. Chicken and Waffles are my favorite, paired with a Kir Royale brunch cocktail. When it's nice out there's patio seating. The staff a really friendly too.
