“I ordered the oyster dinner. My oysters were food and nice sized. My sides were the greens and the hush puppies. The greens were nicely seasoned and very tatsty very close to my mother's so I was impressed. The hush puppies were also.very good, the right amount of sweetness and not overcooked or greasy. The young man that took my order was very courteous and helpful. Overall I enjoyed my experience and will back to visit soon.”

“Locally run cafe with good food & a positive attitude. ???? there is often locals playing games at a big table. Good coffee, breakfast & lunches. Especially enjoy the Greek Salad topped with chicken breast. Because they also have a few outside tables we can meet up for lunch with a friend who walks her dog over. Brother-in-law can find vegetarian items easily. Only downside is they aren’t open on the weekends.”

“If your week isnt going well, the price here will scare you away. But the love that was put into my turkey n jalapeño sandwich makes me feel good. The bread is a little tough for the average American used to white bread. This shop makes sandwiches that belong in magazines. The place smells good as you enter the old doors. A little packed sometimes but I found a spot today to eat and have a beer with my boss and an old friend of his, we stayed for a good 2 hours. The atmosphere is amazing, a little loud but that makes it exciting. Staff deserve a thousand tips today because I'm too poor to give a good one.”

Salmon carpaccio, salmon & avocado “toast” (on a split baguette), and lamb sliders. Dense chocolate brownie with lovely vanilla ice cream also excellent. Wines are unusual (out of 12-15, I had heard of 1!), with a fairly wide selection to choose from. Tasted several and all decent; not sure I would go here for a wine tasting, however. Definitely will return. Pt. Richmond is coming into its own! Service was very professional and gracious.”

“Saw this place on Google maps and decided to give them a try. I ordered the beer battered fish n chips. The fish was Halibut instead of the usual Cod fish that's customary in this particular dish. The fish was meaty and fresh. It held up well and I was pleased. The bartender was friendly and explained the day's menu offerings that weren't listed on the menu. I appreciated his attention to this detail. I would try them again.”

The gumbo was SPECTACULAR, fried chicken very good, fried fish very good (after I added tartar sauce from home), Mac n cheese and greens were excellent. Same for yams as long as you like them sweetened. Beans and rice were solid/fresh. I didn't think the corn bread was my favorite style but definitely homemade. Definitely the best Soul Food spot in Richmond in the 20 years I've been here. Very healthy and fresh food from a local chef. New Soul Cafe is the REAL deal!”
