“Beautifully located diner in downtown Del Mar. We ordered the Bacon, cheddar cheese, and guacamole omelette along with the corned beef hash and some pancakes. The guacamole did not taste very good having a strong lemon taste and had to put it to the side. The corned beef hash was also pretty dry. But the pancakes were really good! The waiter could be more attentive to refilling waters and the food took some time to come out. Overall better than the diner it replaced in the location but leaves more to be desired.”

“First time here but I am a sandwich lover so had to check it out. A wide selection of 30+ sandwiches. I got the Matt Cain of turkey, roast beef and salami with "godfather sauce", (no idea what that is but good). Place was busy but quick. Sandwich was pretty plentiful and the Dutch Crunch bread is always awesome. Will definitely return. Oh, and you get a caramel apple lollipop with your sandwich too.”

“I’ll start with my one con as it’s a quick one: we waited awhile at the host stand for the host to appear and seat us at our table, and once at the table, we waited about 15 minutes before a waiter came up to say hello and take our order. Perhaps they were understaffed last night? ANYWAY, the service once we put our order in was quick, and the food was sooo good! We got the spicy margaritas, the burrito, and some tacos and it was all very tasty. The atmosphere there is also a great date night vibe. Overall it was a good experience and we would come back, even just for drinks at the bar!”

“WOW!! such an incredible experience with Saffrono!! We had a bad mix up with GrubHub and we had to pick up the order ourselves since they had no drivers and had an incorrect time listed for closing on their app. The owner of the restaurant was so incredibly kind and communicated with me so the order could be fulfilled. He was so amazing and waited 35 minutes after closing so we could pick up our order- he didn’t have to do it but he was so sweet and assured us that we could pick it up! I would rate this place 10 stars if i could! Also, the food was delicious!!! Thank you so much Saffrono, and to your owner. “NEW DEL MAR HOT SPOT ! I heard that a new Italian restaurant had recently opened here. This prime location on Camino Del Mar used to be Prep Kitchen until they pulled the plug some months ago. It wasn't our thing anyway...no espresso and snotty staff. I told my wife about this new place and we thought we should hit it for dinner that night. The restaurant's posted hours were 5pm - 9pm so I headed up here about midday on Wednesday to check the place out...at least from their outdoor patio. As luck would have it a guy dressed in black chef style clothing was heading towards the front door soon after I arrived. After a quick exchange of pleasantries I discovered this guy was ( still is ) the co-owner /chef Jay Bartolomei. Jay had some pork cooking in the kitchen and invited me in. Wow brand new kitchen...and positively spotless. Jay apparently hails from Cape Cod where he runs another restaurant with a similar menu to his new baby. We talked about run of the mill eateries who churn out the same boring food and Jay made the point that he loves to create dishes with a twist......my kinda food ! My wife and I love to support new restaurants that are trying to make a difference. I told Jay we would be there tonight without fail. I would call what I saw as classy, casual with a well constructed user friendly upscale menu and a huge outdoor patio. Can't wait !”

A bit cold temperature inside *(maybe intentionally to keep things there fresh) and space seems kinda industrial inside.
