“Our waiter was very friendly and described the menu to us to help us decide what to choose. We decided to order 5 dishes as recommended. The first 2 dishes were excellent and the portions were big. My friend and I took our time to enjoy the food. Before our main dish arrived (half duck), a man came to our table and told us our main dish was on its way, but we had to hurry and eat fast because they had other guests waiting for our table. I could not believe this! I looked around and saw that the couple on our right, who arrived before us were not approached by the man and so did not the man on the left who was dining alone. I can't help but think we were being singled out as we were the only dark-skinned persons in the restaurant. The man later identified himself as Eric, the assistant manager of the restaurant. My friend and I who are both healthcare workers, have been looking forward to having this dinner for months and he just ruined it for us! The duck arrived, was very good, but we were not able to really enjoy it. We took most it to go and did not order dessert, although we would have loved to. Having a Michelin Star is not just about the food, but it is about the whole experience and we had a BAD ONE!”

“I know it has a lot of hype, but we felt it was overrated. Mostly because of the price to portion ratio. The Spaghetti is very good, wonderful sauce, but it’s one smallish nest of pasta. As for the risotto dishes, they put them in these extremely shallow bowls to make it look like a lot of food when it’s like a centimeter high. The lemon in the Di Mare overpowered the dish, and barely had any seafood in it. 6 spoonfuls and you’re done. Italian food is all about big portions. I think they missed that. Family style, leaving full. I don’t know if a regular dinner pasta dish could feed a 12 year-old. Maybe it’s inflation? Maybe it’s hype pricing? Maybe it’s about pushing 2-3 dishes per person? But I just don’t think that approach is in the spirit of real Italian food. Here’s hoping they adjust their philosophy over time.”

“What a fun dining experience. The atmosphere is casual and energized, on par with the service. Exciting, big flavors and textures in a perfect balance of chaotic good. Truly inventive food. I've had their cookbook for 2 years and have loved everything I've made in it, and appreciate how much effort and time and creativity goes into these dishes! Finally managed to snag a reservation (I shall forevermore book in advance). I wish I lived closer, this would be my favorite local spot.”

“The portions are pretty big and they gave us extra seaweed, radish, and japchae on the side! I got the Tonkatsu plate and as much as I hate to say it, the pork cutlet was super dry and chewy. It was served with American-style barbecue sauce which was an interesting choice and I was not expecting that. Everything else was really good though. My favorite dishes were the japchae and the fried chicken. I would recommend the spicy fried chicken.”

“Had some lovely takeout from SPQR during the Pandemic/pricey but worth it. Ordered the takeout Valentine's Special yesterday &, since it came w/only 1/2 oz of caviar, splurged on another ounce. When I arrived, the chef was preparing two lovely heart-shaped donuts to throw in as "his treat." After he left, the manager (who was super personable) told me the chef had also upgraded our 1/2 ounce of caviar to a full ounce. Not sure how they will make any $ on this deal, but was touched and appreciative -- the food was also delicious, BTW.”
