“Quaint neighborhood pub that's close enough to walk to. They have a nice menu of signature cocktails and canned craft beers, and a food menu that offers a small variety of delicious bar noshes. So far, I have enjoined the Chips & Dips Board, and it was good. Could do better with homemade dips, but they're just getting started, and I think they have a small kitchen. We inquired about the possibility of Sunday Funday, and they do have a selection of Bloody Marys and mimosas, and plans are in the works for a breakfast menu. The building used to be a mechanics, so it's nice and airy, with seating inside and out. It's small, but cozy. I love the map of the 8th ward on the wall as a focal point. And living in the neighborhood makes it a place where I want to hang on the regular.”

“The fries were awesome but my burger was not good at all. I would suggest making the hamburger patties by hand and not using some frozen patty that's too thin and doesn't taste good. The bun was toasted nicely. My friend had the Italian beef and he loved it and his fries. Please work on the burgers, especially since you have a sign claiming you have the best burgers. The gyro is the best I've ever had.”

Attentive but unobtrusive service.The magpie seems to cover both stick-to-your-ribs comfort food as well as innovation and the modern menu. Burgers, sandwiches, salads, a few varieties of mac and cheese, and several entrees. The lower level with the original wood pillars and stone walls is a really neat setting. All in all, we are thrilled to have the magpie back!”

We tried the beef jerky, egg rolls, chicken wings, and lad nah--everything was amazingly delicious!!! I hands down recommend the lad nah, and I think Lao Kitchen serves the best chicken wings in Rockford. We will definitely be visiting again. Also, service was amazing!”
