“One of the better breaded tenderloins we have had. Need to add a cheap, simple dinner salad to all the calories. Five star Iowa grub, at a five star price of $15 because we split the large tenderloin.”

“Very considerate service! My hard of hearing son is hard to understand sometimes, the clerk was patient and very kind. Then the food! My kids love the cheese curds! I love the crinkle cut fries! I am allergic to wheat, and I got a gluten free bun, wrapped in protective plastic to avoid cross contamination. Then the burger came exactly the way I wanted it. I put the two together, and had a delicious hamburger! Then the variety of sandwiches and meals is very good. Fish, chicken, and beef round out the sandwiches and meals. The soup is excellent! The salads are large and fresh. I definitely would go back!”

“This is a place of pure nostalgia for me. The food is most if not all "home made". Last I checked a buffet is offered at least daily. The buffet is like a home cooked holiday dinner at a family gathering. Service is pleasant and attentive. The dining room is well kept classic, and whimsical with high ceilings and many nostalgic decorations. Last time I was there Gwen was still running the show. I see the place is for sale. I hope the new owner manages to preserve this wonderful place. As far as I'm concerned Gwen's is the crown jewel of Lisbon and a place that makes Lisbon a destination.”

“Pretty good service, but it did seem like they were having a tough day. I am usually disappointed, by the presentation of the food more than anything. It seems like they take a long time to make stuff, but the finished product usually appears slapped together last minute.”

“We stopped here from out of town. This place was extremely busy. The employees were more than able to handle the business. They worked it like a well oiled machine. Oh and the food is delicious lol.”

“Nice staff and always love the vanilla and chocolate twisty cones. One negative...no hook for my purse in the restroom .”

“Absolutely fantastic service. Tricia, the store manager, served us a little later a night. She was polite, made the subs look amazing, was a great conversationalist, and just made the whole visit a pleasant one. Not that I've had bad experiences here, but this one was above and beyond enjoyable. 10/10 would come back again.”

“We love this place so much! Awesome atmosphere and completely unique...If you haven't been to the Sing-a-long you are missing out!!! Fabulous food, excellent salad bar, and rotating soups that are bold and full of culinary exploration (aka not your run of the mill soups). Go there!”

“The Skillet is a great little cafe that serves up delicious food in a cozy and friendly atmosphere. The staff is both kind and hard-working as they consistently turn out quality food to a constant stream of customers. It is our family's special treat to come down on mornings when we can and enjoy our favorites. From a tasty and hearty big breakfast, to the giant, beautiful cupcakes, we all always leave with happy tummies. They have a very broad menu, but we always stick with our favorites so we haven't even gotten to try it all yet. But we will enjoy trying.”

“What a fun little bar and grill in quaint and picturesque Mount Vernon, Iowa. The daily special today was a most delicious meatloaf with creamy mashed potatoes and a refreshing lemonade. The history of the building as told in the menu was absorbing and interesting. Kudos to the owners for their perseverance. Be sure to stop and feed your tummy as well as your adventurous spirit!”

“We visited this place last Wednesday as part of our "bike night " schedule. It's an old house that has been converted into a restaurant and brewery. The owner and his wife were very cordial. There were over 10 of us in the small dining area, but she pushed some tables together and was able to serve us very efficiently. The food was good and reasonably priced. The beer was tasty and, since it was brewed down in the basement, very impressive. I would definitely come back again.”

“I had the Friday, Saturday evening all you can eat buffet. One trip to the food bar was all I could handle. The fried chicken was especially tasty. For $12.00+ it was a bargain. Very friendly staff.”
