“I recently stopped here for breakfast, and I’m so glad I did! I’m bummed I wasn’t able to grab lunch and dinner. My breakfast sandwich was delicious! I loved both the bacon and the sausage. This sandwich definitely filled me up for a long, active day. Service was great, we were seated right away outdoors. I highly recommend stopping at this gem in Ely!”

“The staff was exceptional! Every person we dealt with was friendly and professional. When we called in the reservation, I mentioned that we would need a pack and play for our infant. I figured we would need to have it brought to the room when we got there, but when I inquired about it at check-in, I was informed it was already in the room. This was much appreciated! We loved the kiddie pool since our kids are 8 months and almost 3. The staff at the restaurant were fantastic! Our breakfast server remembered our toddlers name from the morning before and did great taking our toddlers order. Overall a great experience, but the hotel could use some improvements. The mattress on the pullout sofa in room 244 was awful. It felt like you could feel every spring in the mattress. The bathroom also looked pretty dated. The carpet going down the hallway to the conference rooms looked either really dirty, or just plain worn out. Overall: A wonderful experience! Would definitely stay here again.”

“We stayed in the lodge for 4 days and ate here for dinner 3 out of 4 days. We really wanted to like this place but we were just disappointed. The first day we had amazing appetizers. The stuffed crab mushrooms and chicken wild rice soup were amazing! We ate breakfast here 3 out of 4 days as well and the breakfast was awesome every day! Unfortunately, that was it though sadly. Au gratin potatoes, stuffed walleye, steak, curly fries, pasta, fried clams, fried shrimp, they all lacked seasoning. Not to mention the fat on the steak wasn't even rendered. We ordered the chicken wild rice soup 3 times. The first night was great, the second night tasted just ok, and by night 3 you could tell the soup was simply "leftovers." Fried clams lacked actual clams and was mostly breading. Fried shrimp again had no seasoning. The staff were always the greatest though. Super friendly, attentive, just awesome people! The view of the lake is quite breathtaking this time of year. Fridays and Saturdays I would highly recommend reservations as it's quite busy and they fill up. You may be asking if we didn't like dinner then why did we keep going? Well unfortunately, this time of year in Ely, hardly anything is open in town unless you want Subway or Domino's every day. Like I said, due to the staff and the views and breakfast, we really wanted to like this place. But after trying almost half their menu, we unfortunately were left disheartened. Highly recommend this place for breakfast, the atmosphere, the staff, along with the views. But food-wise for dinner could be a lot better. Thank you for having us and being so sweet to our family. You have a great set of staff!”

“The food here was pretty good. Chips were standard rather than fries but were homemade and nicely seasoned. My Reuben was solid but not spectacular. I wasn't a fan of the corned beef being cubed rather than sliced. A sandwich that can already be a little messy was even more so. That said I enjoyed it. I had fountain pop rather than any of the beer options as it was lunch time and I live a couple of hours away. The service was very good! Friendly and attentive.”

Northern Grounds was very busy this Sunday morning but definitely worth the wait! When I’m ever back in Ely, I‘m already planning to stop by again! ❤️”

“I came into this place feeling welcome and hungry. I was warmly greeted by KC ( Casey) at the counter. I had no idea what I was going to get, but after letting him know what I like he recommended the perfect pizza for me. I have never been to a Dominoes where an employee actually cares about the customer and what they want! KC provided excellent service.”

“This is by no means the fanciest steakhouse out there, but we did not mind the casual vibe. My husband got the salad to start, which was a good, but pretty basic garden salad. I got the cheddar wild rice soup, and it was hands down the best soup I’ve ever had in my life. I would do almost anything to get my hands on that secret family recipe! My husband ordered a steak for his entree with a side of steak fries, which he said were very good. I ordered the chargrilled chicken breast, which came with wild rice and was topped with a sort of honey mustard sauce. The chicken was moist, the wild rice was cooked perfectly, and the sauce made the dish very flavorful. I would love to come back to visit Ely and eat here again!”

“The food here is amazing! Huge portion sizes. The food is so tasty. They had homemade wheat bread that was really good. Coffee was very good as well. Service was great! “This place will definitely be my go to when traveling up North! Came here because I was craving a grill cheese; I ordered the classic grill cheese with tomatoes soup; and my partner ordered the bacon mac and cheese sandwich. Both were ABSOLUTELY amazing! The bacon Mac & Cheese is a must have! It was sooo delicious and hot. The wait was relatively quick; and the waiter was extremely helpful. I also ordered a quesadilla which was pretty mediocre; I would definitely recommend having the bacon Mac & Cheese.”

“Omg, this was super authentic and incredibly delicious! Reminds me of when I've traveled southeast Asia. I cannot recommend this more than saying to you 'stop reading my review and go get in line to order right now!' My husband and I had a great chat with them as we waited for our food. We'll 1,000% be back when they are open next season as they are closing for the winter in a day or two. Portion sizes did not disappoint! We ate the Thai BBQ and the Pad Thai.”
