“Tumbleweeds is probably the best restaurant in Socorro County, and absolutely worth visiting, whether you're passing by on 60 on a long trip, or a local searching for good food in a friendly environment. We go about once a month, or every other, depending on circumstances (so these photos are from various visits not a single meal!) and have never had a bad experience. The owners are friendly and welcoming and the service is always excellent. We look forward to our visits, not just because of the great food but also because it's just pleasant to be there. But about the food: It's fresh, from scratch, and made by folks who know what they're doing. The regular menu has many fantastic options. Some of our favorites: the enchiladas, with their own nice twist on the traditional flavors; the chicken sandwich--I get it 'hot' level of spicy--which is juicy and crisp and certainly could best any place in the 'chicken sandwich wars'; the mac and cheese, which has an amazing cheese sauce. But, my advice is to check the board for the specials. Some of the best burgers I've ever had have been weekend specials here. As an aside, I eat meat probably once or twice a month at most and tend to save one of my meals with meat for a visit to Tumbleweeds---the burgers and fried chicken sandwiches are that good. Also, the pinon coffee is somehow better than it is anywhere else---seriously it actually tastes like pinon coffee here. Something else about Tumbleweeds worth mentioning is that it's committed to the local community. One small example: It occasionally hosts makers markets for local artisans. The business is serious about being part of Magdalena and the surrounding parts of the county. Small businesses with owners like this can help sustain and give breath to small towns--I've seen it happen elsewhere--and it's a blessing to have one like this here.”
