    New Spot Great Food.
Been coming to edisto for a decade. Seen places come and go. This place is great. Breakfast Burrito was AMAZING. Fresh ingredients and very nice owners. Will be coming back when I’m back in sept.

Update: (changed review from 1 to 3 stars strictly because I want to see them make it. This experience was a 1 star experience, but is hopefully not the norm.)I spoke with someone in the company, and they were very apologetic about the situation. While the situation still transpired in a very unfortunate way, it is my belief that it is due to inexperience and long hours. While we personally won’t go back to Tortuga’s anytime soon, our experience will hopefully be a learning experience going forward for everyone involved and our experience shouldn’t sully your expectation of the restaurant. Like I said below, the food has a nice flavor. I just think some kinks are still being ironed out and people are finding where they fit into a hospitality business.

Man, this one was a real bummer. Anytime something new comes to Edisto, we tend to get a little excited since it's such a rarity on the island. We love our tradition, but get excited when we can add something new to it. We won't be making Tortuga's part of that tradition. The food had good flavor, but seems like whoever made the menu doesn't understand item consistency. By the midway point in my bowl, I was left with a bowl full of lettuce with very little besides that.

The main reason they get a one star is because of the incredibly rude ownership/management. We went with our family of 11 people, so sitting in the restaurant was impossible (it is pretty small, and it was fairly busy). They have a patio area right outside of the restaurant, so we decided to eat out there. We have a six month old daughter, so we took a high chair out there. That, apparently, was the biggest mistake we could've made. The ownership came outside and accosted my wife while they were still eating (I took our four year old to the car because he was getting ornery) saying that she needed the high chair now, and taking their personal property out of their restaurant was stealing... (apparently the patio area with picnic table seating is a community area for the strip that includes their restaurant, and ice cream store, and souvenir shops) My wife asked if she could finish her meal and then bring the chair inside, and was told, "No, we are locking up now, and I need it right now." My wife looked in the restaurant and saw that there were multiple groups still eating inside, so it's not like they were waiting on us to be able to leave for the night. My wife gave the high chair back, and the woman went inside with it, muttering under her breath the whole time, while they held the baby with one hand and ate with the other. The woman came back outside and waited for my wife to pass on their way to the car. They figured she had stepped outside to apologize to being so rude and belligerent and inexcusably making them hand over a high chair that was currently holding a child in it, but she came outside to tell my wife, "I asked all of my staff inside if anyone said you could take our personal property out of our restaurant, and nobody said you could." What on Earth is wrong with this woman? A new restaurant just received over $150 from possible repeat customers, and she is upset about a high chair that was quite literally 25 feet from their front door on a patio made for eating? Man, this place will have a hard time if she doesn't figure out how to be a decent human being to her customers. If she's not the ownership, whoever is needs to step in quick because someone like that can burn your business to the ground. Working in restaurants in basically any capacity you could think of over 15 years, I have never seen anyone force a baby out of a high chair...

What a great addition to Edisto Island! We were super excited to try this new restaurant that opened up. The food was fantastic! Fresh ingredients and loaded with flavor. We had the shrimp tacos, steak breakfast burrito, surf and turf burrito and a side of guacamole. The owners were there and very friendly.
