“We came for a romantic New Years Eve weekend in quaint Mendocino. In general we liked it, but with some caviates. Our first impression with the room was one of a disappointment. We stayed in room 12 and the pictures did not really represent the feeling of being there. It seemed quite outdated on first arrival. The odd windows placement at the floor was what counted as "partial ocean view" but only if you squat down to look, while leaving that window unblinded leaves you feeling a bit exposed to outsiders, so we never really had it. The old carpets and ugly paint didn't help. And there wasn't good ventilation for when it got hot at night. I get they want to keep the quirky unique feel from room to room, but imo they could have done more with the room to make it feel the price we paid, even while keeping its charm. Regardless we settled in and had a good time regardless. The large bath and hot tub definitely helped. It has a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere, and was the break we were looking for from city life. Note: they only refresh your room if you ask, so be sure to do so if that's what you are expecting. For breakfast you get choose a dish off the menu. Over 3 days we got try most of the menu and it was all pretty good. Far better than your average free breakfast. They use local/organic ingredients wherever possible, which was a welcome change vs corporate hotels. There was a little bit of inconsistency in the meals, we got the eggs benedict twice, and once the sauce seemed broken, whereas the second it was gorgeous. Also while the breakfast is "free" you still pay a service charge of around $4 a dish... so more like almost free. Breakfast is definitely still worth it, but imo they really should just comp that too cause it was odd enough to stick out. We may look to come back again, but will be sure to book a different room.”

“This spot is amazing. The owners are friendly and the food is top tier. Our kids even loved it! Lots of well made grab and go. This is 5 star across the board! A must go-to for quality poke bowls which was my favorite. BUT everything was amazing. So many fun obscure candies and bottled marbled sodas. We will make this a family stop every time we visit! “This was my first experience in Mendocino and at Stanford Inn by the Sea. My fiancée and I also had our elopement ceremony here in the garden. Our officiant Sid shared beautiful sentiments and provided humor to the ceremony. After we had our dinner at the Ravens Restaurant. I cannot recommend this place enough for those who look to stay at resorts that provide luxury with an impactful mission. Jeff and Joan Stanford have created something magical with this resort, from the sustainable, organic, local and delicious all plant-based cuisine, to the beautiful gardens and grounds. The entire staff were attentive and a pleasure to speak with. Our suite was perfect, bed was very comfortable, shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The views of the gardens, trees and ocean were magnificent from our balcony. My wife and I cannot wait to stay here again and are planning a return as I write this. If you are someone like me who strives to use their money to support local and people who share similar values as yourself, there is no better place in all Northern California than the Stanford Inn by the Sea.”

“An absolute dream! Can’t recommend it More !! The wine list is sublime & local, the food is absolutely delicious 🤤 & the deserts…. SO innovative, beautiful baked/made, fresh & beyond worth it!! “Cool little pub/restaurant in the middle of Mendocino. A great menu with selections for everyone. Have covered outdoor seating and indoor seating. Massive selection of local craft brews. Also great daily seafood specials. I must recommend the clam chowder here for sure. Then the fish and chips were really good. This is local hipster hang out. When all the locals come here, you know it's a good spot. Thanks for the good service and food.”

“We did the "tasting" for dinner which is a 5 course meal paired with wine or whiskey. We had done this before and it was really fun. Not so much this time. It started off fine, but between courses 3 and 4 there was suddenly a 45 minute wait. All told, the two of us were there 2.5 hours. When the check was delivered, it was a shocker to see an additional 30.875% tax was added to our bill. The 20% mandatory tip was added first, then that plus our meals were taxed at 7.875% (yes, the tip was taxed), then an additional 3% tax on just the meal for their hungry families program. We ate in Fort Bragg the next night and there were no additional fees. How was the food? It was okay. Loved the oysters, the duck was dry, but the rest was fine. So you decide- we won't be back-when the tip is mandatory, the service seems to suffer. And taxing a mandatory tip? Ummm, no.”

“Had a great dinner a couple of weeks back at this restaurant. It’s pretty packed for my dinner time slot at 5. Lots of diners placing their orders when we arrived. We had a great minestrone soup and 2 pasta dishes for the night. The soup was surprisingly light, compared to those I had elsewhere. My pasta had prawns and steak, both were juicy and well prepared. The pasta was really tasty! Do pop by for dinner if you are in town!”
