“Had an incredible experience at this local neighborhood eatery that doubles as the perfect date night spot. Upscale look, very friendly vibes and most importantly, great food. The squash toast was exceptional, as were the beats, and the steak was the best, most flavorful steak I’ve had in a long time. Bar selection was good and my fiancé had a great mocktail for all you NAers. To top it all off, the dessert selection was fantastic. We can’t wait to go back and love having these kind and friendly owners, head chef and staff as a part of our neighborhood.”

Forage Market

Address: 123 Washington Ave, Portland, ME 04101, USA

Cafe Restaurant

“Delicious bagels! I loved the fennel seeds on the everything bagel--a really unique touch to the typical everything bagel. Because of the natural yeast, it had a light sour dough flavor which was really nice. Picking up single bagels was super fast. Interesting place where it looked more like a warehouse where they made the bagels, but they had tables outside on a deck where you can enjoy your breakfast sandwich. Looking forward to going back for one of their breakfast sandwiches!”

Freeport Cafe

Address: 29 US-1, Freeport, ME 04032, USA

Cafe Restaurant

“Truly the best breakfast we’ve had during our 2 week tour of Canada and Maine! Eggs were cooked perfect, the hash brown patty was spot on, and it was so much food that I had to take 1 hash brown and the biscuit to go. Btw - the biscuit is HUGE!! I highly recommend stopping in for the best breakfast you will ever have!”

Keg and Kraken

Address: 653 Congress St, Portland, ME 04101, USA

Restaurant

“We saw some photos in social media and thought we should stop in. I was super impressed! The staff were SO nice that I wanted to stay and chat all night. We had a warm sake which was yummy, and edamame and veggie gyoza to start. Both of the apps were delicious and only lightly salted which was great for my partner who has cardiovascular disease, so sodium is important. He had the spicy pad Thai which I tasted - it was really good, with well rounded, but punchy flavors. I had a few sushi rolls, mostly vegetarian and one soft shell crab. All were a great size and tasted delicious. I have to say that I look for sushi/sashimi spots with lots of vegetarian options because I really don’t love meat, Keg and Kraken had lots of veggie special rolls which was amazing! We finished up with the ice creams and the sticky rice - the sticky rice was my favorite, and the green tea ice cream. My photography partner loved the coconut ice cream! We took a few bubble teas home for our daughter and they were well packaged for travel and tasted amazing. We will definitely be back!”

Tobi Takeout

“The curry puffs were excellent, the dumplings were very good. Pork bun was a bit too breaded for my taste. My entree was too hot. When I told the restaurant, it appeared that their system had made an error w the spice scale. They offered to remedy it. Worth trying again.”

UMI Sushi & Seafood

Address: UMI Sushi & Seafood Buffet, 198 Maine Mall Rd #27, South Portland, ME 04106, USA

Restaurant

“This is one of the most interesting buffets I’ve been to since moving up to Maine. They have your typical stir-fry dishes, like beef & broccoli, green beans, chicken & bell peppers, button mushrooms in oyster sauce, etc. They also have the usual things you’d see at a Chinese buffet: peel & eat shrimp, mussels on the half shell, boiled cajun crawfish, fried sesame balls, chicken on a skewer, lots of cut fruit, some cake slices/cake rolls, salad, random “American” foods like pizza, fries, and mac & cheese, and assortment of ice cream. I admittedly didn’t try the sushi because I’m rarely a fan of buffet sushi, but everything looked good and nicely plated. But it gets interesting where they throw in a lot of traditional Chinese items on the buffet, leaning toward Hunan and Sichuan styles of cooking and flavors: dry-fried and hotpot style braised pork belly (similar to Hong Shao Rou), and chili fried shrimp, spicy cabbage stir-fried in chili oil with chili peppers and sliced pork belly. And back near the sushi bar, in between the pickled ginger tray and edamame, is a row of traditional Chinese cold meat dishes: Sichuan poached chicken in chili sauce (Ko Shui Ji, for those interested), sliced roast beef (similar to Fu Qi Fei Pian), spicy wood ear mushroom salad, and even cold spicy chicken feet. (FYI: For folks who’ve never had that style of food before, it’s not meant to be gobbled down quickly so that you can grab the next plate. It will absolutely taste bland if you don’t plan to taste your food!) It’s not drenched in sauce like how a lot of Americanized Cantonese foods are, because it’s meant to be savored to taste the complex flavors brought out from dry-frying the aromatics (normally, I eat this kind of food with a bowl of rice, or with bar snacks/appetizers and a beer). I think it’s a very unusual menu decision by this restaurant to serve this kind of food, in a culture that often consumes quickly and moves along quickly onto the next plate. I think a lot of folks will end up missing out on the more subtle flavors in some of these dishes and the experience of a traditional Chinese family-style buffet meal where you linger over food with friends and family. I’m not sure how long this current approach will last, but as someone who doesn’t have much community or any family in the area, I really appreciate it! Other note: The people here have been really nice and quick to refill our drinks, and the general manager even came by to ask what we thought of the food items! They were very friendly to the senior folks sitting behind us too, and overall seemed very welcoming (kind of a nice change from the previous buffet that was in this location). We came during lunch ($18 buffet, +drinks +tip&taxes), so no idea what it’ll be like for dinner, but hoping to find out soon!”

Babylon Restaurant

Address: 1192 Forest Ave, Portland, ME 04103, USA

Restaurant

“Really great food and service. I had the falafel plate which came with hummus and fries. It was fantastic. There was a good amount of vegetarian options. They have a buffet on the weekend. It's on the first floor so wheelchair accessible. It's beautifully decorated, and there is a decent amount of street parking. A boost to the area.”

Trudy Bird's Ølbar

Address: 424 Walnut Hill Rd, North Yarmouth, ME 04097, USA

Restaurant

“Many beer, cider, and other Scandinavian drink options. They have some snack/small plate options now but I think the plan is to eventually have a full menu. Staff is really friendly and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.”

Tacos La Poblanita

Dara Bistro - formerly the Cumberland Food Company

Address: 371 Tuttle Rd, Cumberland, ME 04021, USA

“We can’t recommended this place enough. High end food and service with wide open parking and not even 10 miles from Portland. Smooth atmosphere, ambiance, from the appetizers to the dessert an on point curated selection of food and libations without being pretentious. We had the pot pie interpretation and the prickly things app was SO GOOD plus the tomato chutney was something I never had but now need a jar. I wanted to try everyone!”

Burano's Wood-Fired Pizzeria

Address: 246 US-1 Suite 1, Scarborough, ME 04074, USA

Restaurant

“My family and I went to Burano’s this past weekend and everything was excellent! It is great to have a wood fired pizza spot in Scarborough with a lot of menu options. We tried meatballs, boneless wings, cheese bread and pizzas. It was all delicious and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was top notch. We will be back for sure! Thank you and welcome to Scarborough!”

St. Joe's Cafe

Address: 220 Gorham Rd, Scarborough, ME 04074, USA

Cafe Restaurant

“Great food! I got the famous Bennie and my boyfriend got their bagel with cream cheese. Not a lot of seating best to get there as soon as they open if you want to sit inside to eat. The famous Bennie is definitely the closest to a NOLA Beignet that I have found if I was to get them again I would ask for lite powdered sugar, their raspberry sauce was amazing!”
