“Detente is a wonderful gem of a restaurant tucked into a corner of Nevin Square in Edgartown. We had dinner there on Saturday and it was wonderful. Service was attentive and our waitress was very helpful with wine selection. The menu is small but offers something for all tastes. Also many of the appetizers can be doubled to be an entree. Food was delicious and the presentation was lovely without being fussy. I had the cod - amen. Splurged and had dessert - blueberry buttermilk bread pudding. Amazing! Go to Detente!”

“Stopped in for a quick bite before running to catch a bus. Fortunately it wasn't too busy and we were served promptly. I'd say the prices were a little steep for what it is but probably not by the standards of Martha's Vineyard. We had a large salad, grilled cheese, and the quinoa avocado wrap. The salad was fresh and tasty. The grilled cheese was made on nice fresh Texas toast. The wrap was the best part, the shell was very tasty and the ingredients were a nice tasty combination. In short a really nice light snack that hit the spot.”

“Disappointing experience. Poor service in bar. Better service in dining room but food was disappointing. Heirloom tomato salad sounded great, but tomatoes were mealy and entire salad contained one plum tomato. (There's a reason those are "paste" tomatoes.) Other dishes were similarly meh. Not awful, just not great. Definitely overpriced for the experience. Ah well. Live and learn.”

“Excellent experience having our entire meal at the bar outside. Everything was great from the drinks to the food to the service. This place definitely has one of the more creative dinner and cocktail menus on the island (my Sangria was delicious). Of course they have a lobster roll (which is very good), but they also have a ton of unique dishes that make the menu a welcome change from the usual suspects. Very good place for sharing with lots of small plates.”

After 2 hours we couldn't get coffee and a check which mattered as we were on the last ferry. Food, by the way, is terrific. They can fix this as there is more than enough staff and some simply stand around as though this is a union shop.....which surely it's not. I wouldn't return”
