“First time at this place was 2021, when staying in Avon. I discovered it later in the week, sadly, or they would've gotten a few more bucks out of my pocket. Owners are right there, cooking it up for ya. Smiling and pleasant as can be. I've tried lunch and dinner items. Pork roll and breakfast tacos are killer!! Couple picnic tables at your disposal while you wait. Easy place to spend my hard earned money at and a great treat too!”

“What a fabulous dinner! We were four adults and a five year old, and they were happy to cater to both demographics - dinner early and fast for the kiddo while we savored. There’s a playground right next door for restless little ones while parents eat. Patio was perfect. Excellent martini. Paella was raved about. And I loved the fish and chips special.”

“I brought my kids to the playground by the Pier and saw the Roots & Leaves truck by chance. I bought one of each donut flavor and an iced latte with a splash of caramel flavor. DELICIOUS !!! All of it. We LOVED the donuts- very light and fluffy (and vegan). What a friendly dude too! We will be back tomorrow morning!”

“Off of 12 after the Super Wings, this little burger joint is tucked inside a strip mall. Blink and you’ll miss it. This is one of the very few restaurants to remain open during the off season from 11-4. The restaurant is bright, clean, colorful, and welcoming. The hand drawn chalk menu is big and bold with mouthwatering offerings. We opted to stay with the classic but with our own twists. Yes, the burgers are made to order. The patties are handmade in front of us then grilled to perfection. Every bite was juicy and delicious. Definitely go visit our friends at Burger Burger Avon.”

“We were trying to decide where to go to dinner in Avon and Ketch 55 was one of the few places we haven’t tried so we gave it a shot. It was pretty decent. Server was great. Food was pretty good too. Got the shrimp bangers for an appetizer. Our party loved them. Fish and Shrimp was good. Chipotle chicken was a hit and who doesn’t like shrimp tacos. We’ll be back.”

“We visited 3 breakfast places while staying in the area. This was the best based on the number of available food and drink options. They had really good coffee drinks, fresh bakery, quiche, bagel sandwiches and more. The food was really good and so was the customer service atmosphere. On a personal note...try the chocolate chip banana bread! .....The creme brulee latte was my favorite as well.”

“We passed The Froggy Dog so many times during our week stay on Hatteras Island. We made a decision to have dinner on our last night and we were so glad we did. The restaurant is huge and because of the very unseasonably warm weather after Christmas, all the outdoor seating were taken. We were glad the restaurant had so many dining patrons. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely spacious and well decorated. We were greeted and quickly seated. Our server Konstance was so delightful. She brought our drinks, told us the specials, and gave her recommendations. I always appreciate servers who will give recommendations because they have tried the food and know what’s good. Our appetizer of Cannonball Shrimp was an ample amount of fried shrimp drenched in a Sriracha mayo sauce. It was crunch, spicy, and delicious. The husband got the crab cake dinner which to quote him “is so crabby”. I opted for the Atlantic Grilled Salmon on a bed of spinach and and wild mushrooms. To say it was delicious is an understatement. The two pieces of salmon were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. Our week of relaxation ended with a great seafood meal at The Froggy Dog because everything from the atmosphere to the service to the food was perfect.”

“The entire experience was great, friendly and prompt service and fresh food. They don't have a freezer and all food is fresh (no more than 3 days old). I started out with the seafood bisque which I would highly recommend and was my favorite part of the meal. The fish was fresh catch and was cooked in a potato chip crust and was phenomenol. Everything was fresh and tasted great! The crab cakes were also excellent! If you're passing by Avon or staying this is definitely one to put on the list. Just keep in mind they are closed weekends and open at 5pm everyday. Give them a try!”

“Visited Waves Market and Deli yesterday. This place is take out only so you will have to eat it someplace else. This is a great little store in the village of Salvo. They have a great hey selection and all of the necessities you could need. The hidden gem is the Deli. The reviews are spot on. The sandwiches and burritos are very good and packed! We got the Wake and Bake, the Breakfast Sandwich and the Chicken Burrito.”

“Excellent lunch spot right on the water. I had some grilled shrimp with a black bean salad and both were excellent. The ordering process is sort of strange. You order and pay at the bar, but then you go sit down and a server brings everything to you. Not sure why they don't just take your order. I also wasn't sure whom I was tipping when I paid. The bartender? The runner? I also don't like reading a big sign explaining the ordering process before I even walk in. Aside from that, the view was great. The service was excellent. Everyone in my party really enjoyed the food. It came to about $75 for 3 adults and 1 kid, no alcohol. I felt fine paying that for the quality and location.”

“Visited Hatteras Bowls for lunch today. It's located in a small shack right next to Hatteras Island Surf and Sail. The reviews drew us in to try it and they were not wrong. We'll be back to try some other things from the menu. We ordered the Hatteras Bowl, Backdoor, Bermuda Triangle, and built one ourselves. Overall we really enjoyed the bowls and I recommend it.”

“Finding restaurants open during the off season is hard. Luckily The Dough Shack is one of the few opened during the off season in Waves, NC. You can call in your order for pick up but do yourself a favor and drive to the restaurant to place your order. You will meet two of the nicest people on the island and you’ll get to see your pizza hand tossed from fresh dough before your eyes. During the short fifteen minute wait for our large supreme and fried mozzarella sticks, the phone never stopped ringing for orders. One particular order was for someone who wouldn’t have made it to the restaurant before it closed. Instead of turning the person away, the owner said he would wait for them before closing. That is going above and beyond in customer service. The person ended up ordering three large pizzas. So if you happen to be in Waves, NC whether on or off season, treat yourself to some delicious local hand thrown pizza by the owner of The Dough Shack. Oh, and get a donut while you wait. The Oreo donut is everything.”

“The ABSOLUTE BEST New York strip steak I have EVER had. Period. and the avocado crab dip is beyond good! It’s not real large in size. Max capacity, at our time of visiting, was 68. I’m in a wheelchair, and everyone went out of their way for my accommodations. The bartender, when we were there, poured a strong mixed drink but delicious! I highly recommend visiting. The price is completely worth the deliciousness of the food!! We were there in August at about 5:30pm. You have a beautiful view of the sunset! Highly recommended!!”

“BEST RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! I don’t usually leave reviews but this place deserves one. I wish I could rate it higher than 5 stars. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night and the service, food and atmosphere were all a 10 out of 10. Best burger I have ever had and best shrimp my boyfriend has ever had. Did not get any drinks but from what I saw, they all looked amazing. There are many different food options and as someone who doesn’t eat fish, I was pleasantly surprised with how many options they had besides seafood. The food came out very quickly from the kitchen which was great. Extremely friendly staff. Definitely recommend this place if you want to watch the sunset. Could not stop smiling the whole time I was there. Will have to come back again some day!”

“The Spare Ribs were cooked perfectly, very tender and juicy, and expertly seasoned with interesting and complex spices and flavors. The noodles were amazingly flavorful. The Macaroni Salad was out of this world...best I've ever had, different but familiar. The owner was very nice. You can tell that this man loves what he does. Our app from waterfront pizza was so yummy, and we enjoyed great beers, fun people, & excellent friendly service. Our pup enjoyed his treat that a nice man gave him in the shop.
