Austin House

Address: 75805 US-26, Bates, OR 97817, USA

Restaurant

““Ma” Austin founded this rest stop/restaurant in the early 1900’s during the heyday of the railroad logging years. She served trout, venison, and delicious pies. The current owners are equally gracious although the menu has changed. Anyone who travels Hwy 26 through here should definitely make this rest stop. The huckleberry ice cream floats are fantastic!”

El Cocinero

Address: 137 Front St, Prairie City, OR 97869, USA

Restaurant

“Wonderful! Ordered take-out that was packaged excellently and was hot (also, whoever put chips on top of the sour cream and guac on the nachos so the tin foil wouldn't touch the toppings - you are a genius!) The food was delicious and plenty for the price. If you're looking for dinner or a bite to eat while passing through Prairie City, you have to try El Cocinero! 5/5 stars.”

Oxbow Restaurant and Saloon

Address: 128 Front St, Prairie City, OR 97869, USA

“OMG! So good!!! We got the vegetable gluten free pizza... Absolutely loaded and so delicious! The service is excellent; the owner and his wife. The ambience is amazing! I urge you to stop in!!”

Chuck's Little Diner

Address: 142 Front St, Prairie City, OR 97869, USA

Restaurant

“Love, love, love Chuck’s Little Diner! Make Prairie City a destination for this charming, friendly spot! Valeria and Chuck were sooo friendly on this cold, rainy Memorial Day weekend, when we drifted in after a snowy night camped in the Strawberries! They welcomed us with hot coffee and an amazing breakfast of the fluffiest pancakes, eggs & crispy bacon. Can’t wait to come back for the homemade biscuits!”

Prairie Pub

Address: 226 Front St, Prairie City, OR 97869, USA

Restaurant

“Lovely family-run watering hole. They were super sweet to both myself and my working dog when we were in town after weeks of working in the wilderness. Very chill back patio space. Great food and w ciders on tap.”

Hitchin' Post Drive In Cafe

Address: 274 Front St, Prairie City, OR 97869, USA

Restaurant

“I enjoyed the food. Onion rings were great and made it all worth it. I would have rated higher but their prices are a bit steep. And what they call a large shake makes me wonder what their small size would look like. I think what put it over the top was charging me extra for take out...eating in was not an option and you charge the customer for a brown bag? Worth the stop but I don’t think I’ll be back.”

The Retreat, Links & Spa at Silvies Valley Ranch

Address: 10000 Rendezvous Lane, Seneca, OR 97873, USA

Restaurant

“The staff is great!! They are very friendly and knowledgeable. The entire retreat is beautiful. There is so much a person can do and see that anyones stay here would be far from boring and Chef Coy and Jacob prepare some of the most delicious food U will ever eat. The family that owns Silvies, the Campbells are some of the nicest & thoughtful people I thinkni have ever met. If ubget a chance to talk to anyone of them, youbwould also agree. Jeff Campbell prepares the sourdough breads daily and OMG! Lets just say, U can never stop eating just 1. Jeff also offers FREE "sourdough starters" along with the directions to enlarge your starter, a few delicious recipes and the history of how he got his hands on this delicious recipe. AND dont forget to get one of his jumbo sourdough cinnamon rolls. They are to die for... Bon Appetit!”

Taco Co.

Address: 234 S Canyon Blvd, John Day, OR 97845, USA

Restaurant

“Having not been too excited about the dining options downtown, I decided to head south on 395. I very shortly came upon a bright red food truck. I stopped and their two reviews were 5s so I decided to give it a try. Very glad I did. I was welcomed very nicely and after going over the menu for a while, went for the cornbread-coated fried shrimp tacos combination. There were 3 soft shell tacos with rice and black beans (so happy they weren't refried). Everything tasted really good, enhanced by their salsa. Turns out they've only been open a few months but I hope their business is a success. Very good service and food at a reasonable price. Doesn't get much better than that. Thanks.”

Subway

Outpost Pizza Pub & Grill

Address: 201 W Main St, John Day, OR 97845, USA

Restaurant

“It was great to be able to walk from our hotel to The Outpost for dinner. The service was fast and friendly. The menu has a great variety of choices. I had one of their specialties, Alice Chicken, which was unique and very good. They have homemade ice cream and a whole variety of good deserts. Definitely a find.”

Squeeze-In Restaurant & Deck

Grandma’s Truck N Kitchen

Address: 101 Barnes Ave, Seneca, OR 97873, USA

Restaurant

“We've only been to Grandma's on Thursdays and Fridays, but she makes THE BEST chicken strips and Reubens sandwiches I've EVER had! When we have to travel to John Day we really try to schedule it so we can have lunch with her!”

Timbers Bistro

Address: 750-766 W Main St, John Day, OR 97845, USA

Cafe Restaurant

“We stopped here for breakfast. The dining room is currently closed, so they’re doing drive-thru only. The coffee was drinkable (admittedly we have high coffee standards) and the croissant sandwich with sausage was quite good. My travel partner’s traditional breakfast was less impressive, the toast wasn’t buttered and the eggs were fried within an inch of their lives. But overall, really not bad for a small town breakfast.”

Restaurant And Store

Address: 148 E Main St, Long Creek, OR 97856, USA

Restaurant

“The people were super friendly and the food was reasonable and delicious. My only complaint is I waited like 30, 45 minutes for a bacon cheeseburger and there wasn’t anyone before me. I was on my motorcycle and wanted to get rollin because it was smoky and windy. Don’t know why it took so long.”

The Chuckwagon

Address: 110 S Hwy 395 N, Long Creek, OR 97856, USA

Restaurant

“I was in a long motorcycle ride and stopped in for lunch. I had never been to Long Creek or the Chuckwagon. I got a delicious bacon cheeseburger, curly fries and a drink for only $10. It was fresh and yummy. The service was quick and friendly. I would highly recommend the Chuckwagon and will be back.”

We ate here two nights in a row and all food and both wait staff were all top notch. Thanks for such a rich, lovely, filling experience (and the best pie that I've ever had--German chocolate).”
