The Charlestown Rathskeller

We vacation in Charlestown at least 3 times a summer for the past 20+ years. We have a 1 1/2 year old dog that we brought with us on this trip and were researching dog friendly restaurants and pubs in the area and The Charlestown Rathskeller came up on multiple searches. We took a ride to find the place and were surprised how close it was to where we were staying and that we had never heard of it before! We went in with our large dog to their outside area for bands and ordered a drink. We sat at a picnic table in the lawn area and a nice gentlemen who worked there immediately came out and asked if our dog was a service dog, I responded that he was not and he stated that his insurance only allows service dogs. I apologized and explained that his establishment comes up on many different searches for dog friendly restaurants. He seemed surprised and allowed us to stay this time to enjoy the music but we couldn’t bring him in the future. I was very appreciative as he could have made us leave as I did not call first to check this info. The property is gorgeous and the set up was so cool, we will definitely be back to eat and enjoy the rest of the property( without the dog)! Unless they change this rule!!!

This place is really one of a kind, from the super cool fire pit in the back, to the somewhat rustic interior all the way to the live music. The Rathskeller gives you not just a meal, but a great night out and is an ideal place to come even if you just want drinks and light fare, though the restaurant has some delicious burgers! I'm sure the other food is great too, but we couldn't resist trying the burgers!

Overall the food at this place is a solid 4 stars and the service can be just a tiny bit slow, but the food came out piping hot and the atmosphere more than offsets any short comings!

I generally like to give one five star review per area per category (basically a best in class kind of vote), but this is the first establishment I've felt deserved five stars simply because it's one of kind.

This place is absolutely worth a visit and I highly recommend taking a trip to check it out!

A sweet spot for families and big groups to meet when it's nice out! Lawn games, live music stage on the weekends, space for kids and grown ups to goof around. Food and drink is a touch pricey; the outdoor bar seems thinly stocked. All the same, worth a visit!

Really great bartenders and the food is usually good I come here a lot. I'd definitely recommend coming here because its a great environment but the portions are getting SMALLER and the prices are going WAY up. The food is usually really great quality though. Great place to see decent cover bands though

Hidden Gem in Rhode Island! Big menu with quality foods. The facility looks new and clean. Also there are games outside near the patio which is cool. I saw a few people playing horseshoes. Definitely will be going back if I'm in the area.
