This place had a lot of hype when I was researching which BBQ to try in Austin on my last trip. Micklethwait absolutely exceeded the hype and deserves the accolades. Best beef rib I’ve ever tried, brisket was picture perfect and tasted like heaven. The mac and cheese was also incredible. Not sure what’s in there, but the after taste will stalk my dreams, in a good way. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Great food and people. Best BBQ I've had. Rustic... Porta Potty on site. Free beer (craft) Saturdays was a pleasant surprise. Bring bug spray. The noseeums were out in force in the back seating area.
Attention my fellow Middle Eastern and Lamb lovers around the world! This place have Pulled LAMB and it’s as delicious as it sound. Calling on you to flood this place ASAP with orders!
We also tried beef Rip and brisket and they are so good. People running the show are great people and the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend
Definitely one of the best BBQ places in Austin, up there with La Barbeque and Franklin's. The brisket is amazing, as it has to be at this level, but what really surprised me was the pulled pork. It's hard to find high quality pork BBQ in Texas, but you won't go wrong here.
I can't believe I haven't posted a review yet. This is by far my favorite place for cue in all of Austin/Round Rock/Pflugerville.
To give some background, my company used to order them to cater group events about every month or so, pre-covid. Then, when things changed and we went to WFH status, my family and I delved around places a little closer to home (Pflugerville).
While they're are some good local places near us, I then saw a post on IG and it instantly reminded me to go back here. Since then, we can't imagine going anywhere else.
Now, I've tried some well-known places known by family name or national spotlight or even local celebs. We have tried places in Elgin and even Houston. After all that exploration, I have to say, Micklethwait is my go-to. Their sides are clean and not crazy "eclectic" or heavy. The staff is always friendly (Kelsey is my gurl!), the chicken is a crazy favorite and that brisket...Just try it.
If you are trying places out and aren't sure where to try in Austin, go here. With current times, you might want it to-go or to have under some shade. Just go and you won't be disappointed. Plus, they do Gold Belly, so you can share this delicious Texas goodness with friends and family anywhere.
