Willy Street Co-op—East

A little smaller than the others. Not bad though. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Way above and beyond.

I love the co=op! I have been a member here for a couple years and love the atmosphere, ethics, and quality of the food. It is a bit on the pricier side and I imagine if you have kids it might be out of budget, but for a single person it's perfectly fine!

There's a bit of an elephant-in-the-room situation at the East co-op with the panhandling that occurs at the exits. I'm very sympathetic to these folks and will usually give them whatever change I have, but since covid sometimes don't have any. There's one person in particular who can get a big aggressive. The last time I visited the co op this person approached me asking for cash, I apologized and said I had to go. I think by my voice they realized I'm transgender, and proceeded to start yelling slurs and me and following me and harassing me for some time. I know they're just trying to get by, but I don't feel comfortable coming visiting anymore :( another friend of mine has also been harassed. There's not really a good solution, which sucks, because I miss the espresso brownies like mad. If you don't come on foot I imagine it's easier to avoid!

Willy east is the best place for local food in Madison. They have awesome inclusive staff that make me feel extra good and welcome:) love it there...in fact maybe I'll go there RIGHT NOW

Lots of local products: we bought some amazing corn chips, some wings to make for tomorrow's game, some local carrots to juice, and some gluten free mini sausages. A great selection of gluten free and vegan items and fresh produce. Checked out the handcrafted mittens and hats and got a fun pair of unicorn cat socks. We are members of another coop so enjoyed a discount as well.

It is a bit on the pricey side. On the other hand the staff members are nice, it smells wonderful, and overall vibe is amazing. I highly recommend going here.
