“We were lucky to find this place on their soft opening day and were quite impressed! Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. I had the chicken shawarma plate with rice and baba ghanoush as the side. The baba ghanoush was just the right amount of smokey, the rice was flavorful, and the shawarma and sauce nicely done. My husband and friend had the shawarma sandwich with fries; the fries were seasoned with zaatar which was a nice touch. If they ask you if you want regular water or flavored water, get the lemon mint water. The infusion level was great, neither flavor being overbearing and it was refreshing. We will be back!”

“UNREAL!! We had the meat and potatoes skillet, burnt ends French dip, a caramel pecan sticky bun, and coffees. Stupid. Insane. IMPOSSIBLY GOOD!! The music is great, the staff are friendly, the coffee is really fresh and delicious... even the bathrooms are great haha! But the real kicker was thee French dip. The meat was SO TENDER. Really glad for the experience, and will definitely be back soon!”

“I have eaten here several times and the service is always excellent! Came for brunch today and enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. Because they have the best sweet potato fries I have ever tasted, we all got sandwiches. My buffalo chicken sand. was good, the salmon club was unique and excellent! Waffle fries were nice and crispy. The dark chocolate tart was a hit as well. I also love the fact that on Thursdays they contribute part of their earnings to a charity, which they rotate. The owner is very friendly and is out interacting with his guests. I'm considering using their spacious patio for my bridal shower. Nice to go somewhere you feel good about spending your hard earned money!”

“This is a great late-night spot. We landed here after striking out a couple other places in the area after midnight. A simple pepperoni pizza was very solid; I'd gladly eat it any time. The mango habañero wings were pretty good, but the pizza was definitely the star. They have some more interesting, Mediterranean influenced items on the menu too. The order was ready in about 15 minutes.. not bad!”

No reservations for roof top, it is first come first serve but they do take reservations for both food dining or cocktail on first floor. On another note, they do not serve food from downstairs on the roof top. It is a different menu from downstairs. Only a few food bites serve on the roof top (like chips/olives). “Recently found out Troost was the hub for great coffee shops in Kansas City. My first visit and the energy was amazing. I love asking for suggestions and the Barista made me a delicious mocha with almond milk served with a FRESH warm muffin that wasn’t too sweet. “We popped in here before a Chief's game one evening. The street tacos w/ shrimp were very tasty; my one critique is that they were greasy to the point that it soaked through the taco shells. The rice had a good spice to it, so definitely not a wasted side. Service was friendly and pretty fast. They also have some easy to drink margs. I'd say Carmen's Cantina is borderline 5 stars.”

“It was a great day to sit on the patio and enjoy a meal. They have a patio street side and on in the alley next to the building. Nice atmosphere! The food was on point. Had the Mississippi catfish which was cooked perfectly. Tender inside and crisp breading. It went well with the sweet potato fries and slaw. “The filter mignon with blue cheese crust was delicious... My grandson's kid burger was huge and set at a great price which included ice cream and a topping. I enjoyed the blue cheese wedge but thought it could use a tad more bacon. There were just a few very small bacon pieces.. The sides need some improvement. I ordered the cheesey potatoes but they were cold and the scalloped potatoes were undercooked. I swapped them for broccoli but also cold and no seasoning. Fortunately, they come with the steak and are not an extra charge. Service was just ok. We waited too long to order and water was forgotten about but the server was nice. With some small improvements, it could be great. At least the steak was.”
