Julep's New Southern Cuisine

Address: 420 E Grace St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“I went here on a Thursday night. The bar attracts many people for drinks and the vibe who may not want dinner. There is a significant cocktail and alcohol selection that is very well priced. Despite the white table cloths and high prices, the restaurant feels welcoming enough to walk into off the street. Service is very nice. The cornbread and butter was very good, a highlight in my notes. I had the shrimp and grits the shrimp were nice and large and the grits had a delicious nubby quality with butter. The andouille sausage was nicely cut. I enjoyed the tomato based sauce that balanced the grits. I found the sauce a little too smoky bordering on liquid smoke flavor that I tried to mask with grits. Others may love the high smoke flavor.”

Maya

Address: 525 E Grace St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“I know a lot of people love this restaurant, but I found it to be just okay, a 3.7 star rating if possible. The ambience is very nice and it’s easy to make a reservation. The margaritas are quite good. Much or food felt pricier with smaller quantities, leaving me still kind of hungry. The roasted cauliflower salad was delicious and a great value. The octopus is good if you like octopus. The tacos were fine, albeit practically NYC prices. My friend really liked the lamb slides. The service was fairly reliable and refilled our water upon request only. The service mis-charged my friend more than they quoted. If you go here, plan to go when you’re not hungry or plan to have 2-3 dishes if you are.”

Secret Sandwich Society

Address: 501 E Grace St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“I had walked by Secret Sandwich Society and had seen it very busy most of the time so I wanted to try it. Service was flexible when I went and it was not crowded, letting me sit outside. The inside has a cool vibe, albeit the temperature was chilly. I ordered the Buddha salad with cauliflower, chickpeas, pickled onions, feta, and curry Mayo. It was very tasty with fresh ingredients. The cauliflower was still raw and a bit difficult to cut. The serving was generous. I was not super hungry so I did not feel the need to add a protein and had leftovers for lunch the next day. For a sandwich/salad shop open later on Sunday’s in downtown I would certainly recommend.”

“Excellent night out for us and our friends, from the moment we walked in and were greeted by the doorman! Though we had a 45 minute wait to golf, we passed the time at a table in the lobby with delightful snacks and beverages- very classy, and very tasty! The table service was exceptional. We then enjoyed the wacky indoor golf course, which had lots of fun surprises on the way. Loved the decor! A perfect night out!”

“The food here is really excellent and the portions are large. Everything I ate had amazing flavor. I got the chicken and beef kebabs with rice, the meat was incredibly juicy and I could have eaten the rice forever. It comes with these amazing spicy chickpeas and multiple sauces on the side which are also incredibly flavorful. My husband got the lamb which was also phenomenal.”

I truly appreciated the effort tou made to deliver my order during a stressful situation. Much love to ya and thank you again. 😍”

“Easily the best cheesesteaks in Richmond. After a hiatus, they're back as of 5/6/21, but have relocated to Jackson Ward (405 N 1st St.) I went yesterday and got my old usual - cheesesteak with grilled onions and whiz. It was just as good as it ever was! Limeade is still great, too.”

Restaurant

Capitol Waffle Shop

Address: 1110 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“Amazing breakfast destination! Capitol Waffle Shop is a great stop for anyone who likes breakfast foods (or maybe a morning "pick-me-up" with some added booze.) Their BYO or Build Your Own waffles are sure to satisfy everyone, no matter how you like your waffles prepared. They also have delicious sweet mixed drinks to help get your day going right. They make your coffee in the shop when you order it, so you're always going to have a freshly brewed coffee. The ordering and waiting system doesn't work in any kind of traditional manner. You look over their menu and then order at the counter before you sit down. The food is prepared quickly and brought straight to you. There is no call-ahead seating or reservations, every table is first come, first serve. However, with the paying and ordering system they use, most people are in and out within 45 minutes. Tables are turned over fast due to the very limited number of seats available. If you're in Richmond and want a nice, tasty breakfast/brunch, you should consider Capitol Waffle Shop.”

Subcentral

Address: 1110 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“Buy local! Support Mom and Pop shops! Been coming here weekly for almost a decade, and yes, I'm the regular, Baby Zero! Both the owners are amazing and truly make my work day with small talk and humor. Nice to be treated and enjoy treating others like real people! They, hands down, make the best chicken philly...evah! I always receive fresh, hot, and tasty food with little to no wait. 5 outta 5, will recommend again and again. I've never seen a disappointed customer who gave them a chance to make it right.”

Maple Bourbon

Address: 1116 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“Been here a few times now. The chicken and waffles are excellent. Juicy and crispy chicken tenders, waffles are crisp with delicious sweet batter. The brown butter syrup is a must! Service is a little slow even when it’s empty but the servers are very friendly and remember you”

Christopher's Runaway Gourmay

Address: 2-98 S 12th St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“Got my usual chicken salad, sesame noodles and fruit salad with side of bread. Despite it packed in a small container it is very filling. Flavors were exactly as I remembered. I think the combo of the chicken salad and fruit is the way to go as the fruit cuts through the monotony of just eating plain chicken salad with its tart sweetness. The sesame noodles were good but now that I'm older and more health conscious (ha) I would probably go for the cucumbers or extra fruit as the second side as I was very full by the end of the meal. Don't sleep on the chewy bread either-having on the side makes it like eating a deconstructed chicken salad sandwich.”

Native Plate

Address: 1203 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“I had the special opportunity of being invited to the soft opening of Native Plate. Everything was so delicious and flavorful especially the Dan Dan Noodles and Salmon Wraps. I also had the passion fruit daiquiri which was a nice tropical taste. I would 110% recommend! The staff was very friendly and attentive as well. The ambiance and decor is great as well. I am excited to go back for the full menu.”

Soul Taco - Shockoe Slip

Address: 1215 E Main St, Richmond, VA 23219, USA

Restaurant

“Soul Taco is a nice, little, no frills place to eat tacos that are huge in quality and taste. My favorites are the catfish taco and the shrimp taco. They are a perfect blend of meat, spices and vegetables in a warm, soft tortilla. They will not disappoint. Their limenade is very refreshing and delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable. They have a lunch special of 3 tacos for $10 and a happy hour special of $2 tacos. Highly recommend Soul Taco!”

“I’m new to this area and I have eaten here twice. Hands down the best tacos I’ve had in Richmond! I’ve been looking for Norris tacos since last year and this is the only place I’ve found some that are good. The consome is 🤤!! Even the fries with the Mexican style season are BOMB! And the staff is so nice. All I can say is it’s worth the wait! Do yourself a favor and order ahead”

Alamir Mediterranean Cusine

Address: 711 N Lombardy St, Richmond, VA 23220, USA

Restaurant

“My food on the reheat was amazing. I got 5 lamb chops and the yellow rice and veggies. Everything was very fresh. The lamb chops were perfect, they were tender and the flavor was there maybe a pinch of salt for me. The veggies however were missing something. I’m missing that Mediterranean food bursting with flavor. Maybe add more olive oil to the yellow rice and minced garlic and cook the onions. I also had fresh lemonade and it was amazing. I’ll be back to try other things bc everything was extremely fresh.”
