“While two female waitresses(who definitely need some customer service training) ignored us and refused to serve us, claiming that we are sitting in "only pick up" seats (where people were clearly seated, as the table has not been cleaned yet). The manager, however, was very professional and handled the situation impeccably : he made sure to kindly allow us to remain seated and served us. Thank you to the manager and to the gentleman working at the register; I truly appreciated your customer service.”

“Simple place with the standard cafe offerings. Solidly delivers across the board but not a place I would go out of my way for.”

“Great food if you like things served on any kind of bagel. The wait is usually a bit long, but you can probably chalk that up to these sandwiches being made-to-order. B&B is just as good for lunch as it is for breakfast. They've also got craft cocktails and a bar if you're looking for a way to pass the time while you wait. Recommend the Mountain Shiksha on a salted bagel - the perfect combo of sweet and salty. Like most things in Union Market (and DC for that matter), a bit on the pricier side.”

“I was having kind of a rough day, and the customer service and good humor of the two guys working the counter really brightened it.”

“Are you looking for a crusty, hearty loaf of whole wheat bread? This place has it, plus tasty pastries and decent sandwiches. Why 3 stars then? It’s just really expensive. $8 for a loaf. $3-5 for a pastry. Maybe the high prices are paying for decent wages for staff? That would be worthwhile I think. But it’s 2 to 4 times more expensive than other bread options, making it hard to make it my weekly bakery. EDIT: Updated to 4 stars because $8 per loaf is still several affordable meals for a price conscious bread appreciator. Go for it!”

“The bagels and sandwiches with bagels are very good, with a variety of cream cheese (called schmear) flavors available. The problem is that everything is rather expensive, down to the coffee.”

“This place is such a treat to go to. Whenever I go I instantly feel like I've been transported to a cool European bar. Ambiance is always perfect in here, it just feels cool to sit in there, but it's still a lot of fun. Staff is friendly and warm, and not snooty. I love their beer selection and their food. The schnitzel is literally so perfect, when I am craving a good beer and a good meal I always go here. If you are looking for something different, a cool vibe, or just a neat experience to try out - I would def recommend this place!”

“Food was good, coffee hot, staff could use customer service training. They didnt smile, barely made eye contact or extend themselves in anyway more than neccessary. Management needs to set an example and be present to make sure tables are wiped and that customers are not harassed for money as they eat by vagrants panhandling and wandering in and out of the station”

“Giving them 3 starts because 1- coffee was boiling hot and it took me half an hour to finish 2- when you order for " here" they still serve you with plastic cups. Why? Otherwise the the macerones are excellent. Please work on the coffee!”

“This is one of the first places I visited when I moved to DC from Oakland/Berkeley, and it made me feel so at home. From the cozy bohemian decor, the hanging lamps and the ever-welcoming greeting, "how can we heal you today?" I'm a lifelong fan. It's one of the first places I recommend to my friends and family when they visit. A perfect place to chill after a long day of touring or if you want a home away from home with friendly strangers. And I always get a warm welcome from Sunyatta, Ali, and the rest of her team. The best vegan BLT I've ever had and the most decadent vegan cookie . Calabash4ever”

“Product quality is very good, customer service is very good, and general vibe is good. Favoite item, Glazed Blueberry Munchkins Donut Hole Treats; favorite time to visit, between 2 and 4 P.M. (everyone is more relaxed and food is being prepared for the evening). Parking is available for a few cars on site or if you do not mind walking a block or two from a side street parking spot.”

“Love this spot. As a cafe, it's got a full selection of coffee and other drinks. There are good pastries and a surprisingly great food menu given how small the kitchen area is. It can be a little tight inside during the winter when the usable space is basically cut in half with no one using the patio, making it a slightly less appealing place to use for work. But it never gets too loud, so if you can find a spot to sit just make sure you have some good headphones. During the warmer months, the patio is surrounded by ivy and is well-shaded. Really beautiful spot to sit.”
