“The biscuit for the bacon egg and cheese biscuit was excellent. So was the egg. The bacon was a bit soggy for me. The pork belly bacon for the breakfast taco was a little over cooked for me. The tortilla was excellent. The egg and onion was excellent as well. We took the food togo. Some of the chairs are not comfortable, and some are not that sturdy because they have 3 feet not 4. I do not care for the fountain drinks there. They are not coke or Pepsi products. The "cola" tasted funny last time I tried it.”

“What a experience!! I walked in immediately love the decor, it looked like a French cafe. The customer service was great everyone was so nice. The bathrooms were so clean and alot of French decor. The food I got was the chicken friand( may have spelled that wrong) it was a chicken puff pastry absolutely great. Also my wife got French toast, not sure what bread they used but it was good also fresh strawberries on top. Last we got dessert, I had the pecan tart that was the first time having this I was blown away. I highly recommend eating here when visiting baton rouge!!”

“Our experience at Stab’s was phenomenal! We went to dinner to celebrate after we got married. Our server was friendly and attentive. He suggested the scallops as an appetizer and I was so glad I went with that suggestion. They were cooked perfectly with bites of crab and gulf shrimp topped with butter and Parmesan with onions breadcrumbs. There was just enough of a spicy kick to them to make them interesting without being too much. For our entrees, my husband ordered the Cajun rubbed prime New York strip with asparagus. The Cajun rub was hard seated to the steak that was a perfect medium rare. I got the prime ribeye, also medium rare, scampi style, which was an off-menu special that night. They took the same crab Augustine that was on top of the scallops appetizer and added some large gulf shrimp, tomatoes and a little cream. It was absolutely delicious and very surprising since I’m usually a purist when it comes to steak. The Brussels sprout (my favorite) were flash fried and topped with bacon pieces and a balsamic reduction. The restaurant surprised us with a dessert of an iced brownie cake filled with raspberry and a scoop of ice cream to celebrate our marriage. Overall we were very pleased with this restaurant!”

The owners stress locally-sourced and high quality ingredients. The first time I went was to try out their Weekly 3-Course Menu (offered Monday to Wednesday) which was about $30. I was impressed and felt I received value for my money. I will make this restaurant a regular choice from now.”

“I have been to the Velvet Cactus about 5-6 times in the past few years since moving to Baton Rouge, LA from Berkeley, CA. I have always enjoyed the food, especially when I get a seat on the patio. However the last two times I've been, the food is still consistently good but the the customer service, from the hostess to the server to the manager to the general manager, have been particularly attentive, helpful and gracious! They just seem like they are paying extra special attention in a way that makes you feel appreciated as a customer.”

“We chose La Contea on a Friday evening after reading good reviews. Thankfully, I had read that there was no dress code, as we felt out of place when we entered wearing casual clothing and was greeted by the appearance of a finer dining establishment. We arrived around 7:30pm and were seated immediately. Everyone was very friendly, kind, and professional. A pianist played tastefully throughout. Our food was delicious and came in a timely manner. Our waitress was excellent. The atmosphere was pleasant and not too overstimulating.”

“We attended a Sunday matinee performance at the Baton Rouge Little Theater with another couple and decided afterward that we should get an early dinner. Portobello’s Grill was our destination and we checked in shortly after 5:00. Except for a group in a private dining area, the restaurant was empty. It seemed a bit odd, since the last time I was there it was for a Sunday brunch and it was jammed inside with multitudes waiting outside to get in. But that didn’t matter. We were quickly seated and our server Vince started taking very good care of us.”
