“1st time customer, and wanted to try their Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, which is why I choose to come here. I decided to order 2 items (Bacon Wrapped Shrimp "Shrimp Brochette" and a Cup of Chicken & Sausage Gumbo) and later a Bread Pudding Desert. First was the Gumbo, which I felt was was rather thick on the RUE, but had a good flavor. For me a had a light spice, but not over the top. If the RUE was a bit thinner, I would have enjoyed it more... but could have been that it has been bubbling for some time??? The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Plate was delicious, but the shrimp were on the small side, with dirty rice and a choice of one side item not found on the menu (i choose hush puppies, but the waitress mentioned others). Now for the Desert! The Bread Pudding was delicious, but I would suggest splitting with about 4 people, as the portion was of good size. They serve it warm (just the way I would like it) and was not overly sweet, and had a great flavor. I would definitely go back for that alone!! Since I only tried those few dishes, I could only give it 4 of 5 stars. Hope you enjoy your visit, as I did mine.”

“Was a great experience. We ordered a meal that they surprised you with 6 different plates. Later in the meal the chef/owner came out and talked to us. It was nice to actually get to thank someone who put in the work and effort into our meal. I believe food tastes better when you put your heart into it and I will say the chef did just that. “Wade is a prince of a man and an excellent host. He was obviously incredibly busy but made time to say hello and helped us choose a bottle of wine. “This place has great pool tables with accurate side cushions, and pool cues are actually mostly straight. So if you're looking to play pool, this is probably the best spot in B/CS. The bar has a nice selection and the wait staff was good. I especially like the touch of having some old arcade games around - I haven't played 1942 in decades. The food is quick and from what I've tried pretty good.”

Enjoyed dinner with our son and his two friends at cafe excel. The atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. Wow! The tarts are amazing! We ordered 2 strawberry chocolate for takeout and our party of 5 had more than enough. They are worth every penny! We will be back! Enjoyable selection for a weekend brunch/breakfast. Called another order in, told 5 mins. I was across town, so figured from the other experience, should be ready when I get there. There was someone in front of me, took 4 mins with them. I drive up, still hadda wait 6 mins. Asked them, do you not start the items until we arrive?? Oh no, we start them just as you call, I don't know why it's been so long the times you've come by as I remember you from this morning and you DID have to wait an even longer time then, I'm so sorry. When I asked to substitute the rice for a more diabetic friendly option he was more than happy to accommodate me by serving an excellent salad with cucumber sauce instead. “I used to work at Axis, right down the road. Our boss took us here one day and said that we’ve never had such a good burger. Only once have I had a burger better than this one and I’ve eaten a million burgers all over the state! Sure, it’s greasy but that doesn’t necessarily equal ‘great’. It’s the flavor of the meat, the spices, even the atmosphere of the seedy little store that it’s in. The last time I was there was on a rainy Saturday afternoon- very quiet, cool weather, wet and dreary and the burger was delicious enough to make the day 100x better!”

“Wow! This seriously blew us all away today. Everything we got was great. I really appreciated the English under all the Spanish words. It made it easy for us to know what we were getting. I didn’t expect much judging by the outside appearance but don’t be fooled. Go inside, take a seat and prepare to feast. The waitresses spoke great English and Spanish. They were friendly, helpful and upbeat. They were pretty busy so our food took a few minutes to get to us but it was worth the wait. :)”
