“I feel like Glenwood should be on lists of things to do when you’re visiting Eugene. It feels so quintessential and part of the town. Great food and unpretentious, the sort of place I’d be equally comfortable meeting for a working lunch or taking family out for dinner. I’ve always admired Glenwood for their huge menu and have spent years arriving hungry and leaving satisfied. Breakfast is always a highlight with a double side of thick-sliced bacon (my benchmark for great bacon is Glenwood), the Alder Street Special is a sandwich I dream about, and the wide variety of dinner entrees means there is something for everyone. Fast service, and I’ve never waited long for my food. Sometimes you’ll encounter a wait to be seated for brunch on the weekends, but it’s well worth it. Super modest price point, and an excellent value.”

“Seems like an unassuming diner atmosphere when you walk in but wows you with the food. The sweet chili half chicken was great, the mashed potatoes were good, the gravy was just alright. Service was prompt and the waitress was on top of drinks before we needs more. The specialty drink menu looked great but I did not grab anything off of it this trip. The lounge in the back with couches looks like a chill place for some great conversation over drinks as well. Definitely will be back.”

“The Paddock's food is pretty tasty, and very reasonably priced. Check out their specials of the day and the happy hour deals. It has the atmosphere of a sports bar, and while I was there (around 6:30 on a Thursday evening) there were pals, couples on dates, and even a few parents with small children, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. My only complaint is that the waitress seemed to forget about my table once my friends showed up and they waited 20 minutes to order before they finally went and flagged her down. It sounds like there was some confusion during a shift change, though, so I won't hold it against the waitress; she was pleasant enough once she came over. All in all I think this is a good place to bring just about anybody for a cheap, tasty bite.”

“Tonight I brought my 91-year-old friend to Mazzi's, and every single Mazzi's employee was thoughtful, careful, and mindful with my friend. I had reserved the table only a few hours before, and said I hoped for a spot that was not drafty, or too loud. They gave us a lovely table in the back, by the fire. It was perfect! I should mention here that the host who took us to our table, walked slowly and kept looking behind, smiling, making sure my 91-year-old friend was okay. The server gave us the extra time we needed to look at the menu, and she catered to every request my friend had. Also, she had a radiant smile, as she showed us this extra care, such as bringing salad dressing samples for my friend to try, and so on. (I am sorry, I forgot the server's name!) I should add here that yes, the food was delicious! And as we left, EVERY SINGLE employee looked us in the eyes, smiled at us warmly, and said good night. I think it made my friend feel quite special. What a sweet night out, with my friend who has been like a second mother to me for decades. Service this good is rare nowadays, so please tell all your staff that their kindness and their smiles, DO make a difference. Thanks so much, Mazzi's!”

The outside appearance is deceiving... could barely even tell it was open when we pulled up because the neon sign was out. Once inside, however, things were great. The standard comfort foods (pad Thai, curry, ...) are the best around, and if you're feeling adventurous their seasonal menu items are just as incredible. “I had a most extraordinary experience with a young clerk named Levi. I asked him to make a sandwich for a woman friend who had just come from a cancer clinic and was waiting in the car. He spent time on her request but when I paid he said, “please give her these gloves (wool duck gloves).” He said his Dad was diagnosed with cancer and his treatment left him cold all the time. He said he had bought these gloves for his dad, but they were too small. I was literally humbled by this unexpected act of kindness as was my friend. Levi is a rare human in this world and his act of kindness deserves recognition and honor.”

“I really like the Pad Thai at Sweet Basil, the only problem they have is with heat consistency. I'll order medium heat and it'll be bland as all get out, so next time I order wild, and it's perfect. So I order it wild again and it's so hot I can barely eat it. If they had a formula that made the heat consistent , so each time you order you know how hot it'll actually be, it'd be close to perfect!”
