“When you cannot find that item or items for your special request dishes, you will find them here. Reasonable prices but at times it seems a little messy. New Owners seem pretty decent.”

“One of the top kum and go in the metro. This is a full service food and fuel establishment. You can get fuel and fresh food. There's a full kitchen you can get healthy wraps pizza and chase it down with thirst quenching fountain drinks. The employees are amazing. Katie is an absolute gem. She's courteous and friendly and exemplifies the true meaning of customer service. She greets customer with a smile. Of all the kum and go, this is one of the top thanks to an employee like Katie.”

“Absolutely the best African food we've ever eaten. We had potatoe greens, cassava and egusi with fufu. Nothing was overly spicy and everything was so flavorful. They will definitely be our go to for African Cuisine. Very good customer service as well.”

“One of the best dives on the East side !!! Everything on the menu is great, Holly is terrific (never an empty drink on her watch) always a good hang. If you go for lunch, ask about The "BENDER" The burger is a fine start, then she stacks on the Capicola and tops it with three cheeses... Eat the fries for desert if you have any room left after the Bender : ) • VIP Smoking Area is a little cramped in cold weather.”

“A Tortilla factory right here in Des Moines? You bet. This was probably one of the best tortillas I’ve ever had and the fresh Burrito was fantastic. Everything is made from scratch. You can stop by and buy chips, tortillas or get lunch. I also bought one of their deserts to take home and their green salsa! If you want authentic Mexican food you need to add this to Your list!”

“This was a new place for us, and it did not disappoint. We went for lunch, and there were almost no people here at the time. I got the grinder with fries and my wife ordered a small pizza (half off on Fridays). The pizza was good, with plenty of toppings and cheese. The grinder uses a milder sausage than I had expected, but it was tasty and they definitely didn't skimp on the cheese (I had to use a napkin to pick it up soy hands didn't get all cheesy; not a bad thing). The fries were also very good, and I'm pretty picky about fries as far as both taste, and firmness. The meal was also a very good price, especially with the half off deal. Service was good, the people nice as well. Overall, definitely recommend giving this place a try, as it seems like a great place. They even have a limited kids menu, and there was a child here when we went, so they are family friendly at least during the day/dinner time. Update: We took the kids here to eat over the weekend as well. They liked the food, and we tried different items. I highly recommend their chicken parmesan sandwich, as it was extremely good.”

“Tried this little small business for brunch this morning and we were very impressed. I highly recommend the farmers eggs with a little hot sauce, I added mushroom and jalapeno and they didn't even add any cost to my meal for it. Our waitress was handling a room full of customers with grace and efficiency. Coffee was good, the biscuits and gravy my husband ordered was good. We were shocked at how economical our little date out was at the end. We can't wait to go back!”

“Outstanding service. Parked right out front and was greeted at the door by DJ the server took my order on my way in. I was not hungry till I saw the great special of the day chicken sandwich and had to get it. Amazing juicy fried chicken sandwich with all the fixings and the fries hit the spot. 2.50 vodka drinks was another great value. The band the neighbors were playing and is was a special night. Very friendly. We will be back...”

“And excellent desserts too! We've often enjoyed happy hour and the excellent appetizers but tried some desserts last night. The chocolate raspberry cheesecake was rich & wonderful. The apple crisp was delicious and made for sharing. We keep finding more reasons to come back! Definitely check out the Mug Club!”

“Decent if you can fit the dress code. We did, but considering the bar has the same amenities as others in the area, I don't think a dress code= higher quality goods and services. So if that's a defining factor for you, you won't miss anything specail. I don't know how much they enforce it, just something to be aware of. Earlier in the night it was quiet. We had plenty of space to play giant beer pong. Once the night started picking up, the dj came on. Music choice was 80s-early 2000s pop. Fun for a small group while watching an obscure movie on the TVs. Not sure if that's a thing, but watching "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" was a big mood. Outdoor patio is nice, facilities are mostly clean and stocked. The bartenders kept the bar stocked/clean and had lots of garnishes that looked so tasty! Bartenders were great. Close to other venues so if bar hopping, a solid mid point. We ended up staying much longer than we anticipated, and the bar got busier through the night and the giant pong can get a bit crowded.”

“I frequent this restaurant for the ambience, great staff and absolutely outstanding entrees. My favorite dish is their wild mushroom toast. It's savory, filling without being excessive, and healthy to boot. Although not pictured here, the red snapper is also highly recommended. The combination of fresh fish and the outstanding pineapple salsa paired with the flavorful rice underneath is tops! Whether for date night, cocktails with friends, a company gathering, or going solo just to enjoy the scenery, Roca should be on your downtown short list. Cheers!”

“This place has very limited veg options but the mushroom sliders (ordered without cheese) were excellent and quite filling. The space is really nice and much larger than I expected. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating and the food arrived quickly.”

“Walked in on a whim. Planning to go to another restaurant near here, but I'm glad I went to Spaghetti Works instead. I was not familiar with many of there sauses so decided to get the sampler. It was fabulous. There were a couple sauses I was not as fond of, but there were surprises too. I am not a big seafood person, but the SPICY red clam sauce was amazing. And try actually mean spicy. The beer cheese an chili were both good and completely new experiences for me. If you are undecided on more than a couple of them, give it a try ... On and it's A LOT of food. Additionally I started with their salad bar, basic lettuce and some fun toppings, plus a wide variety of dressings. I'm sure I could have made a meal of it if I had tried. And the people, although they were short staffed, the staff was still wonderful and made my experience even better. I believe Jada was my servers name and she was extremely helpful.”

“Heard about Mad Meatball opening back up and had to check it out for myself. The food was amazing. The thin crust pizza exceeded all expectations. The pasta was also very good. I will definitely be coming back. There are some great staff members working. It was extremely busy on a Thursday night. Brittany, the manager, was very attentive and did an amazing job. Our waitress, Olivia, did an amazing job, very kind and attentive. Being a newly re-opened restaurant, there are some kinks to be worked out. There was no drink menu, and it was difficult to see the beers on tap, due to their location in the bar. I’ve included a photo of their drafts. Parking is a bit of a problem- there is parking behind Mad Meatball, but it was all full. We found parking available one block south, where for now there is ample street parking.”

“This place is pretty cool. I enjoyed the appetizers and the pizza. We tried the bacon-wrapped dates and the empenadas. Both were delicious. The pizza was also very good. My only issue was that we wanted to try a couple different things- this involved ordering two of these giant rectangular pizzas that come served on cookie sheets with cooling racks. We didn't have enough room at the table in our booth for all the pizza, drinks and plates. It was honestly pretty awkward for the three of us. Took home two half-pizzas and we were all stuffed to the gills. Good leftovers for a few days. Be advised that these things are way more food than you might think because the crust is super thick and buttery. We will go back... might skip the apps and just order one pizza next time.”

“Love, love, love this place! The staff is very friendly & polite, the owners are some of the nicest people and the FOOD is out of this world! I had the Jerk turkey tips with two sides of Mac & sweet potatoes & it was mouth watering! Those oxtail dinners that are served are just as good! I’ve tried everything on the menu & they have the best food for the soul in Iowa!! 5 stars couldn’t sum up this place, give them 10! Highly recommended!”
