“We had a delicious vegan lunch. The chickpea banh mi was super tasty and a generous size (I did get the full sandwich). Two of us ordered salad bowls and another got the Berkeley sandwich. “This place has water sports (SUP, kayaking, etc) rentals, and an area to swim in the lake. The bathrooms are clean and the beach is pretty. It is a little bit crowded, and the snacks at the snack bar are overpriced. It is a really fun place to go to.”

“This new barbeque place in Grass Valley is incredible!!! We tried the ribs, brisket, chicken and pulled pork. Everything was great, very high quality!! The brisket, ribs and pulled pork are the best that I've ever had, so juicy and flavorful!!! The chicken is very good too. The owners are such nice people, I'm definitely going back soon. “We tried downhill skiing here the week before Christmas. It was my 8-year-old daughter’s first time skiing, so we got a one hour private lesson at 9am (arrived at 8am to get our rental gear and lift tickets). The staff were friendly and welcoming — even the parking attendants! The instructor was fabulous and knowledgeable, and had my daughter fully ready for the bunny hill within an hour. There wasn’t much snow, so only one trail was open — but we had plenty of fun. There weren’t many people, so we had more room to ski (great for beginners!) Lunch was pretty good, and there was good hot chocolate…”

We love that no animal products!!! Yes! Vegan is not for everyone but you are seriously missing out! Gluten free!!! It's the taste! I swear you would not be able to tell the difference. “I wish I could give this 3.5 stars. Not a 3 but also not quite a 4. I’m giving it an “average” rating because there are some things to improve. I’m hopeful that as time goes on the kinks of opening a new place are worked out. I will definitely return and try again, but there’s room for improvement. The service could be friendlier and faster. The food itself was good. I’m excited to try a few different things - their frittatas (as opposed to traditional omelettes) and their “Baskets” sound interesting.”

“I love that Penn Valley has a coffee shop! I recently visited here twice to meet a client to sign some papers. The first day was a weekday and it wasn’t too busy (mid-day). “My daughter had a half day so we decided to have lunch in Nevada City. I had walked through the newly remodeled National Hotel, but hadn’t eaten there yet. Perfect! It wasn’t crowded on a Friday, mid-day so we were seated right away. The service was pleasant and timely. The food was delicious! I had eggs benedict, my daughter had french toast. My daughter is VERY picky and she said it was the best she had ever had. She even loved my fried potatoes (which she normally doesn’t like, at all). The atmosphere is elegant and beautiful. Ordinarily, the best one could expect to find is a little dump featuring a wide range of energy drinks, beer, cigarettes and Slim Jims; things that are not the basis for a satisfying meal. Yes, it is a food truck, but on Monday’s they have a private, multi-course, vegan supper club inside. Mountain Lotus Provisions serves a delicious dive into American fusion with their “Bun Mi Burger” a flavorful and savory American twist on the French influenced, Vietnamese classic Bahn Mi. You will get a meaty vegan patty topped with thinly sliced carrots, cucumber, jalapeños, and a secret sauce. As badge of honor for finding a hidden gem like Mountain Lotus Provisions, treat yourself to some toasted coconut ice cream (vegan) at the truck right next to this one. Seriously- vegans, go here if you’re in Truckee/Tahoe! Lastly, there is plenty of shaded seating outside, and make sure to bring wet wipes for your hands because this burger is too good it might leave your hands a mess. I love this place!”
