“What a place! My husband and I are vacationing here in Kill Devil Hill for the first time & were skeptical at first! But WOW, what an experience!! From the laid back atmosphere, to our wonderful waiter Josh (he was fantastic!!), to the amazing food (really great prices ????) just a great place overall! Perfect dinner to end a perfect vacation!!! Btw my husband got the peppered sirloin, let’s just say he made sure he finished his plate! “Had an excellent stay here June 2019. First of all, the location is fantastic - walk out of your room, down the stairs and you are on the beach! Various attractions, restaurants, shopping, etc. are a short drive away. Our room, (like most of the rooms it seems) had a balcony overlooking the beach. It was very fun to watch dolphins, birds and ships pass by. I brought binoculars for star-gazing, but had more fun watching the pelicans dive for fish! There was a minor mix-up with our room cleaning. We tried to communicate to the cleaning staff that we we going out and it was OK to clean the room, which they apparently interpreted to mean that we should NOT clean the room. When we brought this problem to the attention of the front desk staff they were extremely attentive to resolving the issue right away and in the end we were very happy with the way they handled it. There was a sudden storm when we were there that took out the power, and they were remarkably efficient at getting that fixed as well, (much better than many neighboring properties as far as I could see.) The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is that the place could use a little better cleaning/maintenance.”

“Just say, finding this place is a must for breakfast! Before leaving the area to head back home, we stopped off to enjoy one final meal and we are so glad we did. It doesn’t quite look like a place that would have such an extensive menu but it does and all that we got was delicious! Our waitress was delightful, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and fan favorites. Our meals were not just delicious but very filling and not expensive at all! We’re just sorry we didn’t go earlier in our stay to eat dinner.”

“A quaint restaurant in the Outer Banks. Service was excellent. The food was delicious. Just had a simple 2 eggs over medium with city ham and baked apples, throw in a biscuit and my breakfast was complete. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good delicious breakfast. “This restaurant and market were a wonderful surprise! It was the best place we ate during our vacation. Their food was fresh, healthy and well prepared. The staff is also excellent. Our favorite was the salmon toast. Also the fresh veggies and hummus yum. Craft draft beer, 16 choices of wine by the glass out of self serve machines, and a full bar. Live music at night. Even an outdoor garden with two beach chairs.”

“One word... AMAZING. We had the Outer Banks Boil Company come out to feed 21 hungry members of a family reunion and they not only met but BLEW AWAY expectations. “Okay, you have to try the Dolphin Boat...the absolute best fish and chips on the beach! AND, the peanut butter milkshake...Oh My Gosh! If you can find a parking spot that is! Place is over-run by tourists and locals alike. Parking is a serious issue! But, if you can squeeeeze in, well worth the visit. They have other foods like burgers and hot dogs too. Love this place, wish they were open in the off-season!”

“The food and service is top notch! It might seem like just another seasonal so-so restaurant, it definitely is not! I’m a very picky eater and when I mentioned to the waitress that I couldn’t eat what came with my special (after she had served it), one of the chefs immediately came to the table & asked me what types of foods I could eat! Within a few minutes he was back and had taken the time to make me a very special plate! The Salmon (with an amazing glaze & sauce) melted in my mouth, I have never had better! My new sides were just perfect, he had certainly impressed this restaurant critic! The restaurant was overwhelmingly busy, yet he took the time to make this customer feel very special! Another outstanding food experience that I would make it a point to go to again and again. Don’t let the crowd outside fool you, we waited all of 5 minutes to be seated! Enjoy!”

“Stopped in to get a pizza and, observed the workers in the back eating pizza around the area at which food was being prepared. Although, I understand that they to get hungry, they should have a designated area to do so. The customer service was a far cry from where it should have been as, there were several infractions that need to be addressed by manager. The young lady at the resister was polite and, she did pretty good but, the others, eating, standing around removing their caps, and putting them back but, not before they ran their fingers through their hair than, served customers their orders, not to appetizing. The atmosphere in general was not pleasant and, with that being said, I have to many options while on vacation to have to choose to return. I will say tho, the pizza was good but, I will spend my money else where! Thanks!”

“My wife and I were just in town for the week and we stumbled on this nice little place. Prices were good for quality seafood. We ended up splitting a few of there items to try more and it was fantastic. Blue Crab Nachos for the win! As a side note, the building was stuffed full of people and there was a wait. “my wife and i are down from Upstate NY. I read reviews about the Blacken Pelican and we decided to try it we arrived about 6pm and was seated at our table right away. we placed our order and in a short time we had it. the waitress was friendly and quick. the meals came out piping hot. it was all very good. the only side i did not like was the red potatoes that came with my dish. I would highly recommend it. we out the door with full bellies by 7 pm”

“I've been eating at this restaurant for over 20 years. I'm pretty sure that the ownership has changed recently. This used to be some of the best Mexican food around. At this point, I would say that it is slightly above-average. There are better Mexican food choices locally. Tonight during normal dinner hour they had a DJ playing music and making commentary that made conversation at the table difficult. I am not sure of the direction my old favorite restaurant is taking but I am obviously not their target demographic any longer. Thanks for the memories La Fogata.”

“Definitely try to go during Happy Hour from 230-530 to get deals in the sushi. I started with the Seafood Carpaccio which was fair. The sashimi cuts were very small and the "special sauce" was more like soy and sesame oil mix. Kind of bland compared with a ceviche and amount of fish was disappointing. We then ordered a bunch of maki and sushi from the happy hour and all of it was good. Kids ordered shrimp fried rice and vegetable lo mein and neither were very good. The rice was dried out and shrimp over cooked and the lo mein oily and bland. Also had pad thai which also was fair,kind of bland and too oily. Drinks are good and waitstaff very attentive and efficient! Worth the stop for sushi Happy Hour for sure!!”
