“Truthfully, I didn't expect to enjoy my food as much as I did. I was pleasantly surprised! The menu is simple yet diverse. It's a small building with limited staff but they managed to have our food ready within 10 minutes. There is 1 window where you walk up and order food. There is no indoor dining. There are a few tables outside and a few bar stools. I would have liked umbrellas at the tables though as there's no real shade anywhere to sit and eat while you wait for the ferry. Bottomline: good food, reasonable prices.”

“Just a "shot in the dark". In a small shopping center. We pulled in. We were looking for food...and the opportunity arose. Kat's Deli is a "call ahead and order" or "show up, place your order and find a table outside in the beautiful sunshine"...or "under the large welcoming porch" kind of place. Made to order sandwiches with fun names. Chicken salad. Meatball sandwiches. Hummus. BLTs. And an entire chalkboard of wonderful sounding foods. Waters, teas, sodas, beers, IPAs...lots of choices in bottled drinks. Just the place for good food on a sunny day in December. Oh...and take time to smell the candles! The "Root Beer" candle scent is GREAT!”

“Awesome experience. SO glad we gave this place a try! We ate here on a Friday night. Last night of vacation. There was a wait when we arrived at 8pm. We went to the back patio and the excellent bartender took care of us and there was live music. They said it would 40 minutes but the ‘buzzer’ went off after 15 minutes. We sat at one of the bar high top tables. The food was incredible! We had a shrimp appetizer that was a on the specials list. Then I had the Swordfish and shrimp. My wife had the shrimp and scallop pasta. The food was so fresh and the portions were generous. You know by the taste the fish and shrimp were swimming the day before! In all the years going to the Outer Banks, this was probably our best meal we have ever had… and we have had some great meals over the years. Shannon was our server. She was attentive, friendly and always there when you needed her. We got a piece of Key Lime pie to go. It was good, but not exceptional like the rest of the meal. We WILL be returning.”

“Pretty good food and good lunch take out option. We ordered on the phone and it took about 30 min, which was a little longer than estimated. Overall the sandwiches were yummy and the fries were well seasoned but a little too crispy. As with most places around here it’s on the pricier side (2 sandwiches and an appetizer was $30+).”

“Sonny's was a lovely local restaurant. I ordered the 'Bomb Burger' and my wife got the Blackened Chicken. The food came out nice and hot from the kitchen. Each bite of my burger was steaming with flavor. It was cooked a little over what I typically order but tasted great none the less. The burger was simple despite the name. American cheese, Lettuce, pickle, tomato, onion. It came with a mixture of ketchup, Mayo and Mustard. There's was a nice light mixture of the three of these without being heavy handed. Price was great, burger was only $10. The blackened Chicken was also quite good with a nice sear and not dry at all. Flavors were on point. There is ample parking. Inside was clean. Waitresses helpful and considerate. You pay for your meal at the register where you first walk in. All in all a nice place to get some grub. Thank you!”

“Cons: - Not impressed with bathroom, especially for a place like this. Upgrade needed - Hand Soap was empty (Hygiene is key), long line to use since its just one. Staff was courteous and always checking on how we were doing. Great folks! They refilled our drinks. Helped when one of our kids spilled- Amazing! - The water views are on point! Awesome views! - We were early and didn’t have to wait too long to be seated once it opened. -Ordered food came fast enough. No issues there at all!!! - Tuna appetizer was amazing! “Came here on a Sunday evening when they opened for dinner. Service was enthusiastic and quick. Enjoyed our server’s Halloween costume too. The live music was a nice touch for dinner service. We started with some drinks. I had both a pineapple lemonade and a channel marker from the drink menu while my husband just had bourbon on the rocks. We then had the seafood sampler for an appetizer and everything was prepared well. For entrees my husband had the fresh catch special and I had shrimp & grits. The fresh catch was fried well and the fries and coleslaw were good as sides. My shrimp & grits had such good flavor that my husband was sad he hadn’t ordered it also. We’d definitely come back here again.”

“When I'm on vacation I spend a lot of money on groceries and fishing tackle. This place is a good place to buy both, along with gas for your car/truck and your boat. Not only do they have a great selection of tackle, including custom rods, but I was pleasantly surprised at the selection on the grocery side. Prices were much lower than I expected as well. Surprisingly-good spot to get a lot of the things you need in one stop. Highly recommended.”

“This is THE NEIGHBORHOOD BAR situated across historic Hatteras Lighthouse. This is the place where locals go for good food and strong drinks. One of the very few places opened during the off season, Lighthouse Sports Bar has all the bar classics - wings, nachos, fries, burgers, and dogs. “We've been coming to Rusty's for a few years and always enjoy the food here. The kitchen staff is talented and you can tell they really enjoy what they do. We started with the fried calamari which was perfect seasoned. Not too spicy and not bland at all. I had the Kahuku shrimp while my wife had the crab cakes. I'm not usually a fan of green beans but the garlic green beans were seriously delicious. And I know rice is generally not considered a prize-winning dish but this was hands-down the best rice I have ever had. I want to know what sauce they put on the rice because it made an otherwise boring side into something extraordinary. I was stuffed by the time I finished my dish and should have stopped, but I had to find out about the Hatteras Sunshine Cake. Orange cake with pineapple fluff filling and toasted coconut on top? I couldn't resist and was glad I have no self control as I'm not even going to try to describe how delicious it was. My wife had the chocolate covered strawberry cake and she described it as "decadent". I'll be back for my next trip to try the shrimp and grits. They sound amazing.”

“This is a small hole in the wall place that you can easily miss but is a must if you're looking for fresh food at a reasonable price. We beat the lunch crowd and were seated right away. The number one dish we're the fish tacos so of course I had to give that a try. You're given four large tortillas (warm) with a separate plate of all the fixins and two large fillets of your choice of fresh catch. The sauce they provide didn't look appealing to me but tasted amazing and I ended up using the whole amount they provided! “Our family of four visited on a Sunday evening when many other local restaurants are closed. The only disappointing thing is they say have dining in available. They have a very small area where you can eat on-site indoors. There are some tables outside. The food was terrific. We ordered the nachos and loaded fries. Both were tasty. For our main courses we had the 3 tempura shrimp tacos, antipasto salad, the beef tongue tacos, and the steak tacos. Everyone enjoyed the well flavored food. It came out pretty quickly. This restaurant also has a split Italian and Mexican menu. It was a good experience, just be prepared to take out or eat outside. Lots of people were ordering take out and picking up orders while we waited and ate our meal.”

“My husband and I got married here in 2020 and it was such a gorgeous venue to have our wedding at. The views of the sound are unmatched! Since we had a credit from our wedding, we decided to book the room we stayed in on our wedding night for our anniversary this year. We stayed in the Jasmine room and the king bed was probably the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on. The robes and little snacks they leave in the rooms is a nice touch too! Also, everyone who works here is so kind and helpful and really made us feel welcome during our stay. We definitely want to come back again!”

“Incredible experience. Every single staff member we spoke to was really kind, food was great. If I have to critique I would say the salmon I ordered wasn’t to my personal liking (I felt as though it wasn’t as much food as the others for around the same price point but I’m just assuming that’s because of the cost of the salmon, I also didn’t mention this to the waitress because I figured I wouldn’t be able to send it back for something different, it wasn’t a big deal) I wish I remembered the waitresses name because she was awesome. Location is great not many restaurants on the island are right on the water, and some of the ones that are don’t feel as comfortable as this one. The staff was also busy with a beautiful wedding but still made us feel welcome and accommodated. Chose this place to celebrate my birthday since I’ve been to most other restaurants on the island except here and it was a great first impression. Don’t let the obscure location fool you, it’s a hidden gem!”

“If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I found the restaurant on Google looking for a place with good oysters. Everything we ate was amazingly delicious. The restaurant was packed almost the whole time we were there; in a Wednesday in the off season. The locals eat there too so you know it’s good. I’ve seen a lot of reviews complaining about the price, but the portions are large. It is worth the money spent.”

“Great place. Yes.. the outside has a lot to be desired when you first pull in. The service was great. This is an order and then sit down kind of place. The sandwiches were HUGE. We could barely finish our fries. The food was REALLY GOOD. However... beware of the charges. The menu describes what is on the sandwich. BUT THEY charge for all toppings individually that are listed under the description So a bun and burger is 7.99. But with the rest of the description they add another $3 to 4.00 and do not list that on the menu until the bill comes.. we could not understand what the extra charges where. I think if you list what the description is that is what you should get for THAT price.”

“If you want a new tradition added to your OBX vacation this is where you would find it, at Outer Banks Boil in Hatteras. We had never had a boil before . We ordered the basic boil and added on clams and crab legs. You can design your own menu. The food was great and tasted amazing! So fresh and delicious. The spice blend was top notch!! Chris was excellent. He came to our house cooked, served and cleaned up. Boil Boys enjoyed talking to Chris as he cooked . He also shared stories about OBX with the whole family. We ask Chris to give our little ones a Blackbeard treasure map we made ahead. This extended our Boil adventure to the next day when they found buried treasure on the beach . Already looking forward to next year booking our boil!!”
