The Shop: Pizza + Wine

Address: 1929 Cable St, San Diego, CA 92107, USA

Restaurant

“LOVE The Shop. It’s so hard to find good deep dish pizza in San Diego and they absolutely nail it. The thin crust is equally delicious. They also have awesome salads and a unique wine list. Highly recommend!!! (Tip: the deep dish is just as good, if not better, leftover! So make sure you take your extras home.)”

Steak & Bones Tacos

Address: 3923 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“This place is on fire! Everything I’ve ever ordered has been phenomenal! It’s an elevated Mexican food experience, but still casual and authentic. When I first saw that some of the tacos were $10, I was taken aback… until I saw them. HOLY COW! Many of them would be full meals by themselves. Particularly the signature “Steak & Bones” taco that’s essentially an entire steak! The nachos are truly addictive. And for those eating low carb or keto, they have bowl options with salad and/or cauliflower rice as the base topped with all their flavorful proteins and add-ons. They have a nice beer selection, but as someone who doesn’t drink, I appreciate that they have a self-service soda fountain and don’t charge $4 for a 12oz canned soda like many places do these days. I cannot cannot recommend this place enough. It’s a little off the beaten path when it comes to Hillcrest foot traffic, so it’s quiet and cozy at times. I’ve been telling friends about it for a few months, and everyone that tries it raves about it and immediately texts me photos of their food. LOL Try it. You will not be disappointed!”

Burger Lounge

“I just moved into the neighborhood and Burger lounge sent me a free burger coupon! I went with my friend and we split one, the SOB burger with caramelized onions grilled so we each had half, and it was great! I’m definitely going back there! It was creamy it was juicy. It tasted fantastic. It wasn’t too big I loved it, so did my friend and she’s an expert. I highly recommend this place we just walked away, saying.THAT WAS SO GOOD!! How’d they do that?! Staff was fun they made it so fast . I think I could’ve eaten two full burgers. I was super hungry and I’m not really a burger eater. Very good five feel in this place.”

Figaro Dessert Cafe

La Taquería Tijuana

Address: 406 W University Ave Unit B, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“Friendly staff, and food was good. My favorite was the tripa (ask for it crispy) and the cabeza tacos! I wasn’t a big fan of the torta or carne asada fries personally. The guy there did give us some birria to try and it was so good but didn’t sell the consome yet for sale but I’ll be back for that!”

&bar Hillcrest

Address: 1023 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“&bar is such a fantastic place for cocktails, and when the kitchen is open to order from Barrel & Board, the charcuterie is so fresh and delicious. Some of the best bartenders in Hillcrest, and the vibe is always so welcoming.”

Barrel & Board

Address: 1027 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“A gorgeous and classy restaurant. It's a large place that is decorated exquisitely. Fantastic cocktails, and there's even mocktails and other options if you don't drink, like the Mad Tasty CBD sparkling waters. My friend and I split a cheese board, which was very filling. Everything on our board was heavenly, especially the lavender honey which we couldn't get enough of. The service here is fantastic. Great place to go when you really want to feel like a goddess ❤️”

Hong Kong Restaurant

Address: 3871 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“AMAZING!! Best Chinese food I've had in my 8 years living in San Diego, we ordered the orange chicken, the combination fried rice and the Szechuan beef.. ALL 20/10! I could taste the fresh ingredients and they made the plates with a large quantity of protein I was so impressed. The orange chicken was the perfect ratio of chicken, batter and sauce and I could feel like this Chinese food wasn't greasy or overly salty. I absolutely loved this spot for take out and will definitely come back !!!!! ( in the photo is just 1 serving of all the stuff I ordered at home ) I ended up serving myself 3 times cause it was way too good! For reference I came on Saturday at 6pm so whoever was cooking 🧑‍🍳🫶👏🏻”

Arrivederci Ristorante

Address: 3845 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“Excellent service. The waiters are exceptionally quick, kind, and patient. Food comes out quickly, even on bush Saturday nights. The food itself was pretty good. They have a wide selection of pastas and meats, with a number of vegetarian options. They'll be happy to make a custom pasta for you (with reason, of course) to meet your needs. The atmosphere was regular for this kind of restaurant. People wear t-shirts and jeans, and there are brick walls and wooden chairs. This is a great place to bring young children, for a date, or a regular family night.”

Massachusetts Mike's Pizzeria

Address: 435 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Meal delivery Meal takeaway Restaurant

“Small pizza shop we have here in the neighborhood, this and Bronx, both way better than any chain store. The pizza is crispy and thin New York style. On the weekends they usually have a line outside side the door. Margherita is my go to with 3 garlic knots. They have beer on top as well”

Gooseberries kafe

Address: 3776 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“Hidden gem! We really enjoyed the French toast and their egg-n-biscuit. Their make fresh pastries and their coffee was great. Overall a nice “bistro” like style restaurant owned by a family. The owner was friendly and so was his son. We’re looking forward to returning to try their lunch/salads. Oh, you have to try the RAF. I need to find a photo but wow!!”

The Sushi Stand

Corvette Diner

Address: 2965 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“A great place to take the whole family! Arcade, neon lights, oldies music, fantastic ice cream and great service. They have an old corvette right inside the door and the place is decorated just perfectly. A popular space but wait times aren’t too bad. We spent about 150 bucks for 6 people. Huge cotton candy plate for dessert. Fun balloon artist came to the table after we finished food working for tips and creating great balloons!”

RAD Burger

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“Best burger in town!! Or at least needs to be in that conversation! Had the Bacon Truffle Burger, 1/2 fries 1/2 onion rings with an Orangesicle Ice Cream Shake! Burger was amazing and that shake was unbelievable! It’s weird how much it tastes like the Ice cream and will definitely go back again. Would recommend to friends and family. Only problem is deciding to try the Dr. Pepper shake or Orangesicle again.”

Wicked Maine Lobster

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“Located in Libert Public Market, many food spots around and I wanted to see if it was just like the Lobster rolls in Maine(long shot really). I ordered the lobster w/ butter meal. For $30, it's really not worth the price but do understand. The roll itself should have more to it, the cold lobster is with Mayo. Small roll with lobster was okay. Came with fries and coleslaw(which I like). Also a drink. It didn't compare to Maine Lobster rolls, so of course you're gonna judge it by them. I'd suggest if you ever are in Maine, go try a roll and go to Five Islands Lobster Co.(thanks to Food Network/Travel Channel/me at Five Island). If you were thinking of going to try, go. If you feel that $30 is good, go. $30 can basically pay for 2 people at liberty Station. For a place that I only know that makes Lobster rolls, it's okay to try.”

White Rice Liberty Public Market

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“I REALLY want to love this place. However, dry chicken and overcooked egg really tainted the otherwise tasty dish. I ordered the Tocino Manok (grilled chicken rice bowl), which comes with Spicy Binegar Sawsaw. The flavor of the dish was good, but the chicken and egg were both very overcooked. (See picture.) Customer service was nothing impressive, and they didn't give me the happy hour $2 discount. It took about 12 minutes to make my dish with one person in front of me. I'm not inspired to come back, but may give them another shot.”

Pure

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd suite 140, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“5/5 this place was so good. A bit of an açaí bowl connoisseur and Pure didn’t disappoint. Definitely on the pricier side of things but you get a lot for the price. Great service and great vibes to walk around and try other foods as well.”

Bistro Europa

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

Kebab Craft

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“The pita bread is warm and pillowy soft and the best I've had - next time I think I'll get a pita sandwich. Thankfully they provide lids for the Bowls because you get a lot of fresh food but not enough of that pita bread. Now I know that splitting a bowl with someone and buying an extra pita might be a good option for me.”

Cane Patch Kitchen

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“Conveniently located within the Liberty Station market with lots of seating available, although it can get very busy at times. The food is decent although the portions could be a little bigger for the price. We had the poboy and fries and jambalaya. I like the jambalaya was a chicken only option.”

Paraná Empanadas - Liberty Station

Address: 2820 Historic Decatur Rd UNIT 139, San Diego, CA 92106, USA

Restaurant

“Good casual spot to get a delicious empanada for a good price. It is juicy and very well baked. It is also very well seasoned, specially the Malbec beef and super recomend it. I ordered the combo of 3 and picked one chicken, one malbec beef and one spinach with feta. Chicken was the one I liked less. Good service, the attendent was kind and efficient. Don't miss the opportunity to get empanadas during your visit in market.”

Au Revoir French Bistro

Address: 420 Robinson Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA

Restaurant

“Au Revoir French Bistro was a fun experience. I tried a few things for the first time in my life, which I really enjoy. I had Escargot served with bread and seasoning. It was good tasting but I would rather have the Calamari, which I also ordered. I also had Bone Marrow served "in" the bone with seasoning. It was gelatinous on my fork so I was skeptical but it sure did taste good. Then there were the usual suspects. Lamb Chops, Duck, Salmon, and European White Sea Bass. All of the food was delicious. The place was busier than usual and a little short staffed but the owner was picking up the slack. 10 out of 10, I recommend!”
